Berrinba

About the role

Aussie Sheet Metal (ASM) is a locally owned, family-run metal manufacturing and roofing supply business based in Berrinba, Queensland. ASM manufactures flashings, rainwater products and custom fabricated sheet metal and aluminium products. Safety, quality and reliable customer service are central to our operations.

The Sheet Metal Operator supports afternoon-shift production and dispatch through a mix of cutting sheet metal, bending and folding metal products, and loading trucks. Working from production sheets and loading lists, the operator checks material, dimensions, girths, profiles, colour orientation and quantities; labels and quality-checks finished work; and works with production, stores and transport to ensure orders are accurate, safely handled and ready for dispatch. This is a casual position based at the Berrinba Branch, with shifts from 1:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

Key responsibilities

- Read production sheets and confirm materials, colour orientation, profiles, dimensions and quantities before starting work.

- Cut sheet metal to specified lengths and sizes using approved machinery when trained and authorised.

- Bend and fold flashings and other metal products to the required girth, angle, dimensions and profile.

- Complete first-off and final quality checks, production records and labelling requirements.

- Stage completed work safely for loading and dispatch.

- Assist with afternoon-shift truck loading and unloading as directed by the supervisor or dispatch team.

- Check products against loading lists for customer, profile, colour, length and quantity, keeping identification labels visible.

- Sequence and protect loads, particularly long flashings and sheet-metal products, to prevent damage and unsafe handling.

- Assist with load restraint within training and authorisation, and operate forklifts only when licensed and approved.

- Report drawing discrepancies, product defects, machine faults, delays, hazards, incidents and near misses promptly.

- Use materials efficiently to reduce offcuts, scrap and rework.

- Follow secure-work procedures,

machine guarding and isolation requirements, wear required PPE and maintain safe pedestrian and forklift separation.

What we're looking for

- Experience or demonstrated capability in sheet-metal cutting, bending or folding, with training provided for approved equipment as required.

- Ability to read production sheets, measure accurately and follow loading lists.

- Strong attention to detail when checking dimensions, finishes, labels, profiles, colours and quantities.

- Commitment to safe manual handling, tidy work practices and quality standards.

- Reliability, a methodical approach, strong time management and a willingness to learn and improve.

- Ability to work cooperatively with production, stores, transport and dispatch teams.

- Forklift licence is desirable; forklift operation is limited to licensed and authorised operators.
