Environmental Superintendent - Gold Mining
Perth Based Initially | Great Southern WA | 8:6 DIDO Roster
- Join a developing gold mining operation in WA's Great Southern region
- Perth-based initially, transitioning to an 8:6 site roster before H2 2027
- Permanent opportunity with genuine ownership of environmental systems and compliance with environmental conditions of approval
The Opportunity
Our client is developing an exciting gold mining operation in the Great Southern region of Western Australia and is seeking an experienced Environmental Superintendent to join its growing team.
This is an opportunity to become involved during a key stage of project development, helping establish the environmental management systems, processes, monitoring and controls that will support the project's progression into construction and operations.
Initially based in Perth for approximately six months, the role will transition to a site-based position by the second half of 2027, working an 8 days on, 6 days off drive-in, drive-out roster based on 12hours shifts from a nearby mining village.
While the position is titled Environmental Superintendent, we would also welcome applications from experienced Environmental Managers who enjoy being close to the action and are comfortable in a practical, hands-on role.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager - Operations, you will take responsibility for the development, implementation and ongoing management of the project's environmental systems implementation and compliance requirements.
Working closely with operational and technical teams, external consultants, regulatory authorities and other stakeholders,
you will play an important role in ensuring the project meets its environmental obligations as development progresses.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing environmental management plans, procedures, monitoring programs and compliance systems.
- Establishing and maintaining an effective Environmental Management System appropriate to the project's development and operational requirements.
- Managing environmental consultants and contractors, including technical scopes, budgets, schedules and deliverables.
- Supporting environmental approvals, regulatory compliance and reporting obligations.
- Liaising with relevant State and Federal regulatory authorities.
- Working closely with project and operational teams to ensure environmental requirements are understood and implemented on the ground.
- Supporting stakeholder and community engagement activities, including maintaining accurate records and managing environmental enquiries.
- Promoting a proactive approach to environmental management, safety and continuous improvement.
About You
We're looking for an experienced environmental professional who combines sound technical knowledge with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Engineering, Natural Resources or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated environmental management experience within the mining or resources sector, ideally involving project development, construction or operational readiness.
- Robust working knowledge of Western Australian environmental legislation, approvals processes and regulatory requirements.
- Experience developing environmental management plans, procedures and compliance systems.
- The ability to manage consultants, technical studies, budgets and competing project priorities.
- Confidence engaging with regulators, contractors, operational personnel and community stakeholders.
- Strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills.
- A current C Class driver's licence.
Importantly, we're looking for someone who is equally comfortable developing environmental strategies and documentation in an office environment as they are implementing those requirements on site.
Location and Working Arrangements
While we anticipate most candidates will be Perth-based, the location may also appeal to environmental professionals living in the Great Southern who are looking for an opportunity closer to home.
This is a full-time, permanent position offering the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to a developing mining operation.
Interested?
If you're an experienced Environmental Superintendent or Manager who enjoys the challenge of building systems, solving problems and being actively involved in site operations, we'd welcome a conversation.
