Role Responsibilities

Confirm every case, statute, and regulation is still positive law for the point cited. Catch negative

Shepard's

treatment.

Catch non-existent or misdescribed cases. Verify quotes, holdings, and pin cites.

Judge completeness by ensuring controlling authority is found and on-point cases are not missed. Maintain distinct 50-state/multi-jurisdiction splits.





Verify currency by checking the version of the law in force on the operative date.

Distinguish binding vs. persuasive authority. Require verify-before-finalize.

Qualifications Must-Have

Frequent Lexis+ use - weekly or more - for substantive legal research in your current or recent role

2+ years of qualified legal-research experience

Reflexive

Shepard's/KeyCite

use; can spot a bad cite, misstated holding, or superseded statute on sight

J.D. and bar admission, MLIS / law librarian, or equivalent research-heavy experience
