Osborne Richardson work hand in hand with Queensland Government agencies right across the state, and we've got a cracking contract with QBuild for an experienced Principal Workplace Health and Safety Advisor (AO6/1) up in Cairns.
You'll be based primarily at QBuild's Rapid Accommodation and Apprentice Centre (RAAC) in Portsmith, a specialised facility building state-of-the-art modular homes for delivery and installation right across Queensland. The trade delivery and installation teams are construction people through and through, but the facility runs on a disciplined lean manufacturing philosophy. So whether your WHS background is in construction or manufacturing, you'll feel right at home.
This is the site's own WHS authority role. You'll run the show autonomously on site, partnering with a highly skilled workforce to build a safe, high-performing production culture, with the wider regional WHS team on hand whenever you need them.
What you'll be doing
- Acting as the dedicated WHS authority on site, building solid relationships with workers, forepersons and management through an educational approach to compliance
- Partnering daily with site forepersons to lead morning prestart meetings, making sure high-risk activities,
structural hazards and SWMS are understood before work begins
- Leading monthly Talksafe meetings and driving ongoing site engagement
- Carrying out comprehensive site safety audits across all construction delivery lines
- Leading incident and hazard investigations in line with legislation, Codes of Practice and the safety management system
- Working as part of the wider regional WHS team
What you'll need
1. Certificate IV in WHS (mandatory)
2. General Construction Induction (White Card) (mandatory)
3. A current driver's licence (mandatory)
4. Competence in Excel, Word and PowerPoint (mandatory)
5. Proven experience in WHS roles in a similar construction or manufacturing environment (mandatory)
6. Confidence leading prestarts, toolbox talks, audits and investigations with frontline crews
7. The ability to work autonomously on site while staying connected with a broader WHS network
What's on offer: up to $79.17 per hour + super, a contract from 9 November 2026 to 29 January 2027, standard hours, based at QBuild's RAAC facility, 46 Redden Street, Portsmith.
Please note a QLD Workers Consent Form is required for every candidate before submission.
