Senior AML Consultant (Part-Time Contract → Permanent Opportunity)
Sydney | Flexible / Remote | Approx. 10 Hours Per Week Initially
Are you an experienced AML professional looking for a role that offers genuine autonomy, variety, and the opportunity to help shape a growing practice from the ground up?
We're partnering with a fast-growing specialist advisory firm that has built a strong reputation through client referrals and high-quality investigative and compliance work. As demand continues to increase, they're looking to appoint a Senior AML Consultant to support the next phase of growth.
This is an opportunity to move beyond process-driven AML environments and take ownership of complex compliance challenges, working directly with decision-makers and clients across a range of industries.
About the Opportunity
Unlike many traditional AML roles, this position will see you acting as a trusted adviser to clients rather than operating within a single institution. You'll work across a diverse portfolio of businesses, helping organisations navigate regulatory obligations, manage AML risk, and make informed risk-based decisions.
The firm has ambitious growth plans and sees AML as a key strategic business line. The successful candidate will join at an exciting stage,
with a clear pathway from an initial contract engagement of approximately 10 hours per week to a full-time permanent position within the next 6-12 months.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a senior AML adviser across a portfolio of clients
- Provide practical guidance on AML/CTF regulatory obligations
- Conduct enhanced customer due diligence and risk assessments
- Support suspicious matter reporting and escalation decisions
- Assist clients with AML program development and remediation
- Deliver independent reviews and compliance assessments
- Interpret legislation and provide pragmatic, risk-based advice
- Engage directly with regulators, stakeholders, and senior client contacts where required
About You You'll be a highly experienced AML professional who is comfortable operating independently and making judgment calls in complex situations.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Significant AML/CTF experience within consulting, advisory, financial services, or skilled services environments
- Experience operating at AML Manager, Senior Manager, MLRO, Compliance Manager, or AML Code Holder level
- Strong knowledge of Australian AML/CTF legislation and regulatory expectations
- Demonstrated ability to interpret legislation and form independent views
- Experience managing client relationships and delivering advisory projects
- Strong written communication and report-writing skills
- A pragmatic, commercial, and solutions-focused approach
