We are looking for a practical, proactive WHS Officer to join our team and provide visible, "boots on the ground" safety leadership across our North-West sites.

About the Role

As the WHS Officer, you will be a key on-the-ground presence responsible for driving the Beardwood WHS Management System at the site level. Reporting directly to the WHS Manager / General Manager, you will work collaboratively with site crews, subcontractors, and Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs) to ensure our compliance culture remains consistent, practical, and aligned with legislative requirements.

This is not a purely administrative role—we want someone who loves being out on-site, delivering toolbox talks, and solving safety challenges practically to keep projects moving forward safely.

Key Responsibilities

- Site Presence & Leadership: Conduct frequent site visits and inspections to identify risks, manage high-risk operations (such as civil works, plant operations, and working at heights), and drive a positive safety culture.

- System Ownership: Drive the daily implementation and maintenance of our WHS and Quality Management Systems, including reviewing SWMS, permits, and subcontractor documentation.

- Risk & Compliance: Identify potential compliance vulnerabilities, develop corrective action plans, and provide practical safety guidance to site leadership.

- Incident Response: Assist in immediate investigations for near misses, injuries, or hazards, ensuring formal reporting is completed within 48 hours to prevent recurrence.

- Training & Engagement: Deliver site inductions, in-house safety presentations,



and engaging toolbox talks. Act as the primary point of contact for safety queries or dispute resolution on-site.

- Continuous Improvement: Monitor the effectiveness of safety initiatives and recommend operational improvements to align with best practice principles.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will have a tenacious, positive approach to safety and the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic construction environment.

Qualifications (Essential):

- Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent).

- Construction White Card.

- Valid Driver’s Licence.

- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.

Experience & Competencies:

- Extensive experience managing high-risk activities within a commercial construction or civil environment.

- Proven track record maintaining WHS registers, reviewing subcontractor documentation, and conducting root-cause investigations.

- Strong ability to interpret WHS legislation and apply it in a practical, commercially smart manner that supports project progress.

- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with onsite crews and report clearly to senior management.

- High attention to detail and accuracy with formal report writing and documentation.
