Accounts Payable and Receivable Officer
Access Metal Recycling is looking for an Accounts Payable and Receivable Officer who takes pride in getting the details right. Your accurate, on-time coding will feed the operational reports our managers rely on to run the business.
- Location: Fyshwick, Canberra ACT
- Employment type: Permanent part-time, 30 hours per week (6 hours per day)
- Salary: A permanent part-time salary of $70,000 per year plus superannuation
- Hours: 9am–3pm
About the role
This role sits at the start of our financial information chain. Every invoice you code and every receipt you allocate shapes the numbers in our operational reports, so accuracy and timing matter as much as volume.
What you'll do
Accounts payable
- Process supplier invoices, checking each against purchase orders, delivery records and approvals
- Code every transaction to the correct account, cost centre and period
- Prepare and process supplier payment runs on schedule
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies quickly
- Maintain accurate supplier records and answer supplier queries
Accounts receivable
- Raise accurate customer invoices and credit notes on time
- Allocate receipts promptly and correctly to customer accounts
- Monitor aged debtors and follow up overdue accounts professionally
- Resolve billing queries with customers and internal teams
Coding and reporting
- Meet month-end cut-offs so transactions land in the right reporting period
- Review coding for errors and correct them before they reach reports
- Work with managers to confirm coding when a transaction is unclear
- Reconcile AP and AR sub-ledgers to the general ledger
- Support month-end close, audits and continuous process improvement
Payroll
- Assist with payroll and process pay runs
About you
You notice when something doesn't look right, and you follow it up until it's resolved. You also understand that a miscoded invoice is more than a data entry error, because it changes what someone sees in a report.
You will bring:
- 5 + years' experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable or both
- Exceptional attention to detail and a strong record of accurate coding
- A clear understanding of how transaction coding flows through to reporting
- The ability to prioritise and consistently meet deadlines and cut-offs
- Experience with Xero, AI, and automated approval, processing and reporting systems
- Intermediate Excel skills
- Confident, skilled communication with suppliers, customers and colleagues
Desirable:
- A qualification in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field
- Experience in recycling, scrap metal or a related industry
What we offer
- A permanent part-time salary of $70,000 per year plus superannuation
- Stable employment with a growing family-owned business
- Ongoing training and long-term career opportunities
- A role where your work directly supports business decisions
