At SSI, we support newcomers and other Australians to achieve their full potential. We work alongside people from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with disability, and children and young people to build capacity and overcome inequality.
We are looking for a Migration Support Officer to join our CSP team, based in our Carlton office. This opportunity is available part-time or full-time on a maximum-term contract until 30 June 2027.
About the role
Reporting to the CSP Program Coordinator, you will support individuals, families and their sponsors or supporters through visa assessment, application and settlement processes. Combining careful administration with empathetic, client-focused support, you will help keep applications progressing and people informed at every stage.
What you will do:
- Coordinate new intakes and existing cases, support eligibility assessments and prepare visa application documentation.
- Keep clients, sponsors and supporters informed with clear, timely updates and responses to enquiries.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records in ICMS and work to application deadlines and program requirements.
- Support settlement case management, organise orientation sessions and connect entrants with settlement service information.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, government and community stakeholders, staying informed about changes to migration policies and procedures.
About you
You bring a people-first approach,
strong attention to detail and the ability to navigate complex situations with care and professionalism. You can balance accurate administration with responsive support for clients and stakeholders.
You will also bring:
- A minimum of three years’ equivalent experience and/or tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services or a relevant discipline.
- Strong knowledge of the visa and migration sector, including relevant government policies and programs.
- Case management experience, including assessment and case planning.
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to respond constructively to complex or conflicting situations.
- Strong stakeholder relationship skills and the ability to advocate for people in vulnerable circumstances.
Experience in contract or financial management, and knowledge of different migration entry programs, will be highly regarded.
