About the position

Reporting to the General Manager Corporate Services, the Head of Commercial is responsible for leading Sustainable Timber Tasmania’s commercial function and providing strategic advice that drives business performance, growth and value creation. The role oversees sales, business development, contractor management and commercial operations while ensuring STT remains responsive to changing market conditions and customer needs.

You will lead the development and implementation of commercial and sales strategies, oversee key contractual frameworks, and work closely with senior leaders to ensure commercial activities support the delivery of STT's strategic and operational objectives.

This role provides an opportunity to influence the future direction of a significant Tasmanian Government Business Enterprise while leading a high-performing commercial team.

This position may be based at any of our statewide offices,



with the preferred location to be negotiated with the successful applicant. A competitive executive remuneration package, including salary and vehicle provision, is negotiable and will be tailored to the successful applicant.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development and execution of STT’s commercial and sales strategies to support sustainable business growth.
- Provide strategic commercial leadership and advice to the General Manager Corporate Services and senior leaders.
- Identify opportunities to improve business performance through market intelligence, customer insights and commercial innovation.
- Oversee commercial agreements relating to forest product sales, procurement and forest operations.
- Negotiate complex contracts that maximise value, manage risk and support customer and supply commitments.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, service providers and industry stakeholders.
- Lead, coach and develop a diverse commercial team to achieve business objectives and foster a culture of accountability and high performance.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, customer value and commercial outcomes.

About you

You are a strategic and commercially minded leader with a proven ability to deliver results in complex operational environments. You bring strong commercial judgement, exceptional stakeholder management skills and a track record of leading teams to achieve sustainable business outcomes.

You will bring:

- Tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, economics, finance, law,



forestry, supply chain management or a related discipline, or substantial equivalent senior commercial experience.
- Demonstrated experience in commercial strategy, sales, contract management, negotiation, customer relationship management and business development.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to influence, coach and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience balancing risk, value and long-term business objectives.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience operating within complex, regulated or operationally diverse environments.

Experience in forestry, natural resources, manufacturing, infrastructure, primary industries or government business enterprises will be highly regarded. Postgraduate qualifications in business, commerce, finance or management are desirable.
