Tingalpa
About the company
Our client is an Australian-owned supplier of garage door, gate, access and automation products, based in Tingalpa on Brisbane's bayside. They supply trade installers, wholesale customers and homeowners across Australia from a modern warehouse, showroom and trade counter. The business has grown steadily for years, and more product lines are on the way.
About the role
You'll be the go-to technical specialist for escalated enquiries. The sales and front-of-house team handles the routine questions. You get the ones that need real technical knowledge, by phone, email and text, and sometimes from customers who walk in with a product in hand.
It's office and workshop based. There are no site visits, no on-call roster and no after-hours calls.
What you'll do
- Confirm product compatibility for garage door motors, gate motors, remotes, receivers, keypads and safety beams
- Walk installers through troubleshooting live while they're on site
- Help homeowners solve problems in plain language
- Interpret manuals and wiring diagrams, and research products you haven't seen before
- Bench test returned products and prepare warranty assessments, with more decision authority as your knowledge grows
- Escalate complex faults to supplier technical teams with a clear summary of what has been tested
- Back up the trade counter with technical questions from wholesale customers
- Share what you learn, so recurring faults get solved faster across the team
What you'll bring
You don't need to know every product. You need a technical foundation and a logical way of finding faults.
- Hands-on fault-finding experience with electrical or electromechanical equipment
- An understanding of motors, control boards, relays,
receiver inputs and safety accessories, or the aptitude to learn them quickly
- Confidence reading wiring diagrams and manuals
- Patience and clear communication with experienced tradies and with customers who aren't technical
- Reliable follow-through and accurate written advice
- The judgement to say "let me check" rather than guess
Backgrounds that suit this role: garage door or gate installers and service technicians, and electricians or electrical apprentices with garage, gate or access work. Access control, security or automation technicians fit too, as do people from hardware technical support with real hands-on experience. Experience with brands such as B&D;, Merlin, ATA or Gliderol is a bonus, not a requirement. No electrical licence is needed.
Culture
It's a practical, down-to-earth team that backs each other up. When the phones get busy, someone covers. You'll be mentored by a senior technical team who have been solving these problems for years. The dress code is casual, breaks are flexible around workload, and new ideas are welcomed.
Perks
- From $70,000 + super, with more on offer for strong garage and gate experience
- Monday to Friday, 7am to 3pm. Finish early, every day
- No on-call, no after-hours calls, no van, no site call-outs
- All tools and test equipment supplied, and staff shirts provided
- Structured induction, on-the-job product training and mentoring
- A 12-month salary review, and a planned team lead pathway as the technical team grows
- Street parking on site, and no Christmas shutdown, so you can start when you're ready
