About the role

Love working outdoors, leading a team and keeping our parks looking their best? This could be the opportunity for you!

The City of Wanneroo is looking for a hands‑on and motivated Leading Hand – Parks Operations to help maintain the parks, reserves and public spaces that our growing community enjoys every day.

Working as part of our Assets Maintenance team, you’ll combine your practical parks maintenance skills with your ability to lead, support and develop others. You’ll help coordinate daily activities, ensure work is completed safely and efficiently, and take pride in delivering high‑quality outdoor spaces for our community.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

- Undertaking parks maintenance and caring for the City’s parks, reserves and infrastructure assets.
- Providing day‑to‑day leadership, guidance and training to a small work group, including new employees.
- Operating and maintaining tools, machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
- Coordinating daily tasks and supporting the efficient delivery of maintenance activities.
- Completing work documentation, including timesheets and work orders.
- Building positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors and members of the public.
- Promoting a safe working environment by identifying hazards and following workplace health and safety requirements.

No two days are necessarily the same, so you’ll need to be adaptable, proactive and ready to roll up your sleeves.

About you

You’re a practical, team‑focused person who enjoys working outdoors and takes pride in a job well done. You have the confidence to guide others, the experience to get the work done and a positive attitude towards working in a busy, changing environment.

You understand that great parks maintenance is about more than keeping things tidy – it’s about creating safe, welcoming and well‑maintained spaces for the community to enjoy.

To be successful in this role, you’ll be able to demonstrate in your cover letter and resume:

- A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar parks maintenance or horticultural role.
- A Certificate III or higher in Horticulture or Turf Management (preferred).
- Experience providing leadership, guidance or support to a team.
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to complete work documentation accurately.
- Confidence using workplace technology and information systems.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a range of people.
- The physical capability to undertake manual outdoor work.
- A minimum MR‑class driver’s licence.
- A current safety awareness card.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety practices, including hazard identification in parks and reserves.
- A positive, flexible approach to change and a willingness to support other service units when operationally required.

If you’re someone who leads by example, values teamwork and wants to contribute to the upkeep of our community’s public spaces, we’d love to hear from you.
