About the role
This Compliance Manager role sits within the ANZ compliance function and reports to the Head of Compliance. It suits a legally trained professional looking for a meaningful in-house role with genuine balance and scope to grow as the function becomes more strategic.
Duties
- Manage compliance incidents and breaches from identification through investigation, rectification, remediation and reporting.
- Assess incidents against the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), the General Insurance Code of Conduct and other relevant obligations to determine what constitutes a reportable breach.
- Coordinate breach reporting to regulators, including preparing notifications and following up remedial actions.
- Provide compliance advice to claims, underwriting and other business teams on day-to-day matters and new initiatives.
- Prepare compliance reporting for management committees and the Board, and support risk assessments, control reviews, the sanctions program and regulatory change.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in law; further qualifications in business, commerce, economics or financial services are desirable.
- Legal experience gained in private practice or in-house, with exposure to general insurance or claims matters.
- Strong working knowledge of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and breach reporting obligations, with the ability to interpret legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Experience reviewing drafts and contracts and providing legal or regulatory advice.
- An understanding of how claims and underwriting teams operate within a general insurer.
- Experience in compliance incident management and familiarity with compliance systems and registers is highly regarded.
- Australian experience is sufficient; knowledge of New Zealand requirements, including the Fair Insurance Code, is an advantage.
