Job Description
Ssoutreach Pty Ltd, trading as Outreach Auto Works, is an independent automotive repair and servicing workshop based in Salisbury North, in Adelaide's northern suburbs. Outreach Auto
Works is now looking for an experienced Motor Mechanic to join the team. With a steady and growing book of customers, the workshop needs another qualified mechanic who can take a vehicle from booking-in to handover with minimal supervision. This is a hands-on, full-time role on the workshop floor, covering the full range of light vehicle work the business offers.
Motor Mechanic | Outreach Auto Works | Salisbury North, SA Key responsibilities:
- Hook vehicles up to computerised scan tools and modern diagnostic equipment to read fault codes, check live sensor data and test electrical and electronic systems, then trace each fault back to its source in the engine or related parts before any repair begins.
- Carry out logbook and general services to manufacturer schedules, including standard and full synthetic oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid top-ups and engine tune-ups, so vehicles run smoothly and stay within emissions and pollution requirements.
- Strip down and remove engine assemblies, gearboxes and transmissions, steering racks, suspension and other mechanical components, inspecting each part closely for wear, damage or failure.
- Repair or replace worn and faulty parts, working from manufacturer service manuals, wiring diagrams and technical data, then rebuild and reassemble engines and components to the correct specifications and torque settings.
- Road test and bench test vehicles after repair, adjusting brakes, steering, suspension, engine timing and transmission components until they perform as they should and pass the workshop's final quality check.
- Complete brake inspections and repairs,
battery testing and replacement, tyre fitting and puncture repairs, wheel alignment set-up and car air conditioning servicing as part of the workshop's everyday job mix.
- Inspect vehicles for safety and roadworthiness, including pre-purchase and annual inspections, and prepare a transparent written report of any defects and the work needed to bring the vehicle up to a roadworthy standard.
- Talk customers through what was found, prepare accurate quotes and obtain their approval before any extra work goes ahead, keeping the advice plain, honest and easy to follow.
- Keep job cards, service records and parts usage up to date, order parts from suppliers, and make sure work meets the workshop's warranty and workmanship standards.
- Look after workshop tools, hoists and diagnostic gear, keep the work area clean and safe, and follow work health and safety rules, including the correct handling and disposal of waste oil, fluids and old parts.
Education and Experience:
- At least 1 year of relevant experience as a Motor Mechanic.
- AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or an AQF Certificate IV, in light vehicle mechanical technology or a closely related field.
About us:
- Sound mechanical knowledge across a range of makes and models, and confidence using computer-based diagnostic tools.
- A methodical, detail-focused approach and pride in getting the job right the first time.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to customers in plain language.
- Reliable, safety-conscious and able to work well on your own or as part of a small team, including on busy days.
Salary & Employment Conditions:
- Permanent position, full time (38 hours per week).
- Salary of $75,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum.
