Ltd., trading as Spartan Quip, is seeking an experienced Fitter (General) to join our Maddington workshop. The role involves reading engineering drawings and fitting and assembling mechanical parts and subassemblies used in the manufacture of semi-trailers and transport equipment. It also includes fitting air and braking components, inspecting completed work and coordinating with relevant tradespeople on trailer wiring and lighting work.

Task & responsibilities Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and job requirements to determine components, measurements, assembly sequence and fitting methods. Measure, fit and assemble mechanical parts and subassemblies for semi-trailers and transport equipment using hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment.

Fit and assemble mechanical components, including axles, suspension and braking components, to drawings and job specifications. Install, connect and check air lines and braking system components as required for trailer assembly. Coordinate trailer wiring and lighting installation with electricians and assist with fitting components.

Diagnose and resolve mechanical and air-system faults,



and report wiring or lighting issues to the relevant tradesperson. Inspect and test completed work, identify defects, make required adjustments and check that assemblies meet drawings, specifications and quality requirements. Complete job cards and maintenance records, and report defects, missing components, parts requirements and recurring faults to the supervisor.

Order and manage spare parts and consumables as required, and help maintain a safe, organised and productive workshop. Qualification & experience A relevant trade qualification in mechanical fitting, engineering, heavy vehicle or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience. At least one year experience in mechanical fitting, component assembly or a similar workshop setting.

Ability to read and work from drawings, specifications and job requirements. Practical understanding of mechanical components and systems, including braking, air lines, axles and suspension. Ability to identify faults, complete work accurately and follow workplace safety procedures.
