Casual, with potential for full-time hours over summer

There’s a lot that goes into making positive ice cream, and we’re looking for someone who’d enjoy being part of it.

At Van Diemen’s Land Creamery, we make premium Tasmanian ice cream and gelato. We’re looking for a reliable, practical person to join our Deloraine production team as we head into our busy summer season.

You’ll be involved in the everyday work of making ice cream, from weighing ingredients and preparing batches to operating equipment, filling tubs and packing finished products. It’s busy, hands-on work that suits someone who enjoys keeping active, working with others and having something to show for their day.

About the work

Your day will include:

- Preparing and weighing ingredients accurately.

- Making ice cream and gelato and operating production equipment.

- Filling tubs, packing and handling finished products.

- Monitoring production and reporting equipment, product quality or food safety issues.

- Washing and sanitising equipment and production areas.

- Following food safety procedures and completing production and cleaning records.

- Helping with other production tasks to keep the day’s work moving.

It’s active work, with much of your shift spent on your feet, lifting ingredients and handling tubs. Cleaning is a substantial part of food production, so you’ll need to be happy getting stuck into that too.

About you





You’re dependable, enjoy practical work and take pride in doing a job properly. You can follow instructions, pay attention to detail and maintain a steady pace. Once you know what’s required, you get on with it and look for where you can help next.

You’ll need to be comfortable with the physical demands of production, willing to learn and ready to work as part of the team.

Experience in food production, manufacturing, commercial kitchens or similar hands-on work would be welcome. Food safety knowledge is also an advantage, but we’re happy to provide training for someone with the right approach.

Once trained, you’re comfortable working under general supervision, following established procedures and completing assigned tasks without constant prompting. You know when to keep things moving and when to ask for help.

Hours, pay and location

The role is based in Deloraine and starts on a casual basis, with the potential for full-time hours over our busy summer period. We’d love to hear from people in Deloraine and surrounding communities.

Paid under the Food, Beverage and Tobacco Manufacturing Award, with the rate determined by relevant skills and experience and the duties performed. Casual loading included, plus super.
