Chapman-Davies Optometry is seeking a Casual Optical Assistant/Receptionist to join our friendly team in Lakemba, NSW.

This is a 1-3 day casual position offering flexibility whilst providing essential support to our optometry practice. You will be the first point of contact for our patients, delivering exceptional customer service whilst assisting our optical professionals in delivering high quality eye care services. This role is integral to maintaining the smooth operation of our clinic and ensuring patients have a positive experience from arrival to departure.

What you'll be doing

- Greeting and welcoming patients with warmth and professionalism, making them feel valued from the moment they arrive
- Managing reception duties including scheduling appointments, answering telephone enquiries and handling patient administrative tasks
- Processing patient payments and handling cash or card transactions with accuracy
- Assisting optical professionals by triaging and preparing patients for eye tests
- Helping patients select and try on glasses frames and contact lenses in a consultative manner
- Maintaining accurate patient records and ensuring all documentation is completed correctly and stored securely in compliance with privacy regulations.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and organisation of the practice, including the reception area.
- Providing information about optical products, services and lens options to help patients make informed decisions
- Processing lens orders and managing inventory of frames and optical products
- Supporting the team with general administrative tasks to ensure efficient clinic operations

What we're looking for

- Previous experience in a customer facing role, ideally within healthcare, optical or retail environments
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage positively with diverse patients
- Excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail, particularly when managing patient records and appointments




- Proficiency with computer systems and experience using practice management software or electronic appointment booking systems (training provided if necessary)
- A professional demeanour and commitment to maintaining confidentiality and patient privacy
- The ability to multitask effectively in a busy environment whilst maintaining accuracy
- Basic numeracy skills for processing transactions and managing payments
- A genuine interest in optical healthcare and a willingness to learn about eye care products and services
- Flexibility and reliability, with the ability to work casual shifts as required
- Current or willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check or other relevant clearances as required
