About the Role
The Transition to Mental Health Nursing Program (TMHNP) is designed to support Registered Nurses transitioning from general nursing into specialist mental health practice. The program provides a structured and supportive pathway for nurses to develop contemporary mental health knowledge, strengthen clinical skills, and apply evidence-based approaches to care within diverse mental health settings.
The program integrates clinical experience, professional development, study days, clinical supervision and reflective practice. Through this comprehensive approach, participants are supported to consolidate theoretical learning, build confidence in their clinical practice, and develop the capabilities required of beginning mental health nurses at Northern Health.
As a Transition to Mental Health Nurse, you will provide high-quality, recovery-oriented care through comprehensive assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment and support interventions.
Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver safe, person-centred care that promotes the wellbeing of consumers, families, carers, and the broader community.
You will also contribute to a culture of continuous learning, quality improvement, and excellence in mental health care, supporting positive outcomes and recovery for those accessing Northern Health Mental Health Services.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Demonstrated ability to practice collaboratively and work effectively as part of the multidisciplinary health care team
- Demonstrated provision of high-quality consumer care
- An understanding of assessment, clinical reasoning, problem solving, organisational and prioritisation skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
