Our client is a well established, multi-disciplinary Western Sydney law firm based in Parramatta. Its injury compensation practice acts only for injured people, on a no win, no fee basis, alongside the firm’s family law, property and wills and estates practices.

The team includes accredited specialists with long experience, and the firm is known for a personal, client focused approach. It resolves matters efficiently where it can and is prepared to run them to hearing where it needs to.

The Opportunity
Our client is looking for a Senior Associate to lead its workers compensation team in Parramatta. This is a combined role, split between running workers compensation matters and managing the team.

You’ll lead a team of eight, including paralegals, and report directly to the firm’s principals. You’ll set the team’s goals, manage performance and work with the principals on the strategy for the practice.

Your work will include:

- Managing a team of eight: allocating work, reviewing files and keeping matters moving

- Setting goals for the team and for individuals, and running performance plans and reviews

- Supervising, mentoring and developing lawyers and paralegals

- Working with the principals on the practice’s strategy, workflow and growth

- Running your own statutory workers compensation files, including weekly benefits, s60 medical and treatment expenses, and s66 lump sum claims for permanent impairment (WPI)

- Reviewing insurer s78 notices and internal review decisions, and advising clients on disputes





- Running and overseeing matters before the Personal Injury Commission, including Applications to Resolve a Dispute and conciliation and arbitration

- Preparing and overseeing IRO (ILARS) funding applications and managing matters within the grant

- Briefing medico-legal experts and counsel, and conducting settlement negotiations and conferences

- Remuneration: $180,000 to $200,000 plus superannuation, depending on experience

About You

- 7+ years’ PQE, admitted in NSW

- Strong plaintiff workers compensation experience, including PIC matters and IRO funded files

- Proven experience leading a team, including goal setting and managing performance

- Able to think about the practice as a whole, not just your own files

- A sound working knowledge of the Workers Compensation Act 1987 and the Workplace Injury Management and Workers Compensation Act 1998

- Confident dealing with clients, insurers, doctors, experts and counsel

- Wants to build a long term career in plaintiff work

- A second language will be well regarded, given the firm’s diverse client base
