About the role
We're seeking a contract Compliance Engineer to be the technical owner of classified plant compliance at a Queensland underground hard rock mine.
You'll assess inspection and service findings, determine the real level of risk, and hold contractors accountable for corrective work. You'll work alongside a Compliance Planner: you own the technical decisions, while the Planner looks after scheduling, logistics and administration.
This is a new role with stronger technical governance than before. It suits an engineer who wants to build a compliance program, not just maintain one.
Key responsibilities
Technical review and risk
- Review contractor inspection, service and breakdown reports; validate findings and rate risk and priority
- Make fitness-for-service decisions, including isolation, de-rating and return to service
- Identify repeat failures and root causes, and recommend changes to maintenance strategy
Contractor management
- Act as technical owner for all compliance contractors
- Write technical scopes of work and approve quotes
- Verify completed work against scope and standards, and accept or reject it
- Review and sign Work Authorities, JSEAs and Working at Heights permits for high-risk work
Compliance and corrective actions
- Maintain classified plant registers: inspection status, registration, defects and due dates
- Raise SAP notifications and work orders, and drive closure of overdue and legacy items
- Help design an improved system for tracking faults and corrective actions in SAP
- Ensure compliance with the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999, Regulation 2017 and Australian Standards
- Deliver monthly risk-based compliance reporting to equipment owners and leadership
Asset management
- Update maintenance plans, task lists and inspection frequencies in SAP
- Establish or confirm the pressure vessel compliance program
- Spend regular time in the field, including underground,
inspecting equipment and overseeing high-risk work
Your first 90 days
- Report the compliance baseline across all three equipment classes
- Confirm the pressure vessel, fire systems and crane registers, and close any gaps
- Implement the improved fault and corrective action tracking format
About you

- 5–10 years in maintenance, reliability or asset engineering, including at least 5 years in mining or heavy industry
