The OpportunityWe are seeking a highly capable Open Pit Mining Engineer to join our Perth-based consulting team on a fixed-term contract.

This role is ideal for an experienced mining engineer with strong technical expertise in strategic mine planning, mine design and scheduling, who enjoys taking ownership of technical deliverables and working directly with clients.

You will contribute to technically challenging projects for established mining operations, with opportunities to lead study components, evaluate alternative mining strategies and influence key planning decisions.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and contribute to mine planning studies, including technical evaluations and development of mining strategies.
- Develop and optimise open pit mine designs, production schedules and ROM strategies.
- Undertake strategic and tactical mine planning, including scenario analysis and optimisation.
- Apply Alastri APS and other mine planning software to develop robust planning solutions.
- Evaluate mining alternatives and provide clear, commercially focused recommendations.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations and client deliverables.
- Collaborate with clients and internal specialists to ensure technically sound and practical outcomes.

About YouEssential Requirements

- Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent qualification.




- Minimum 7 years' relevant experience in open pit mine planning.
- Demonstrated capability in strategic mine planning, mine design and scheduling.
- Strong hands-on proficiency in Alastri APS (essential).
- Ability to independently manage technical work packages and deliver high-quality outputs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Full Australian working rights.

Highly Regarded

- Experience leading or contributing to mining studies.
- Practical open pit operational or site experience.
- Proficiency in Deswik or other mine planning software.
- Experience evaluating mining scenarios and optimising production strategies.
- Interest in applying automation, AI and emerging technologies to mine planning.

Working ArrangementsWe offer a flexible hybrid working environment based in Perth:
- Approximately three days per week working from the office.
- Approximately one day per week working from home.
- Approximately one day per week visiting client operations, generally within one hour of Perth.
- Limited additional site travel.
