Team Leader, UNE Discovery Voyager | Science and Technology - SABL

About the role

As Team Leader of UNE Discovery Voyager, you'll lead one of the most exciting outreach programs in regional NSW - bringing hands-on, play-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths) learning to life for K–10 students in schools, community libraries, and events across the region. This is a leadership role with real purpose. You'll oversee the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of the program, guide and develop your team, and work closely with UNE academics to design and deliver innovative STEAM activities that connect with curriculum and genuinely spark curiosity in young learners.

You'll also play a key role in shaping how the program grows - interpreting educational policy, refining operational procedures, and working alongside the Head of School to strengthen UNE's science outreach and community engagement footprint across northern NSW. It's a dynamic, on-the-go role that involves significant regional travel - perfect for someone who loves variety, thrives with autonomy, and wants to make a real difference in the lives of students and communities outside the classroom.

About you

You're an energetic, people-first leader with a genuine passion for science communication and education outreach. To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

- A relevant degree and substantial experience in science communication, education outreach, or program leadership
- Proven leadership capability - you know how to guide a diverse team, build a positive culture, and bring out the best in the people around you
- Creative program development skills - you can design and enhance engaging, play-based STEAM activities that are curriculum-aligned and age-appropriate for K–10 students
- Strong independent judgement - you're comfortable making decisions, solving problems on the fly, and adapting when things don't go to plan
- Operational and budget management experience - you can keep a program running smoothly, safely, and within budget
- A readiness for regional travel - this role covers a wide catchment and you'll be out in the field regularly
