Looking for a career that takes you somewhere different?
Working on board ships, travelling across Western Australia and learning a specialist skill could all be part of your working week at Fintran.
We’re looking for a reliable, practical person to join us as a Trainee Fumigation Technician based in Albany. With our head office in Henderson, our work takes us across WA, including Bunbury, Esperance and Geraldton, to name a few.
You’ll learn alongside experienced technicians, gain industry qualifications and develop the skills to eventually lead fumigation jobs yourself.
You don’t need a university degree, a trade or previous fumigation experience. You do need a willingness to learn, clear communication and the flexibility to work around a changing schedule.
What does Fintran do?
Fintran is a biosecurity and fumigation company helping protect agriculture and keep international trade moving.
We treat imported and exported cargo to control pests and meet the biosecurity requirements of its destination. Our work takes us on board vessels, into port terminals and across grain facilities, silos, bunkers and container sites around Australia.
With current projects and different treatment methods to learn, there’s plenty of variety.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll start with the fundamentals and take on more responsibility as your training progresses. Your work will include:
- Travelling to worksites across WA and helping prepare equipment and treatment areas.
- Learning to carry out fumigation treatments safely under experienced supervision.
- Completing safety checks, following treatment procedures and maintaining equipment.
- Using digital systems to complete accurate job records and compliance paperwork.
- Communicating professionally with teammates, clients and vessel crews.
- Building the technical knowledge and practical skills to coordinate jobs as you become qualified.
This is active, physical work involving lifting, equipment handling and driving, alongside technical learning and detailed paperwork.
What’s in it for you?
- Paid training and licence support: We support you through the training required to obtain your fumigation and pest control licences.
- A clear path to higher pay: Your base salary increases as you complete the relevant qualifications and competency milestones.
- Allowances while you train: Trainees can earn applicable allowances from the beginning.
- Travel with expenses covered: Fintran covers work-related travel, accommodation and meals within company policy.
- Permanent full-time employment: Build your skills with ongoing support from experienced technicians.
- Variety and responsibility: Learn different treatment methods and work towards leading your own fumigation jobs.
Based in Albany, working across WA
Albany will be your home base, with travel primarily within Western Australia to support work in locations such as Bunbury, Esperance, Geraldton and Henderson, where our head office is located.
Our operations run on a 24/7 roster,
with work scheduled around vessel arrivals and client requirements. This means early starts, nights, weekends and jobs that can come through at short notice.
Travel is a regular part of the role and may involve several nights away from home. You’ll need to be comfortable with regional driving, overnight stays and changes to your schedule.
Workloads vary, with busy periods balanced by quieter operational periods. Some compliance and administrative work can be completed from home when operational requirements allow.
If you enjoy travelling, adapting to changing plans and working beyond a conventional Monday-to-Friday routine, this could be a great fit.
What we’re looking for
- Reliability, initiative and a strong commitment to safety.
- Clear communication and a professional approach with clients and colleagues.
- Confidence using apps and digital systems, with attention to accurate paperwork.
- The ability to undertake physical work and follow detailed procedures.
- Flexibility to travel across WA, stay away overnight and work varied hours.
- A current Australian Driver’s Licence and full working rights in Australia.
Experience in labouring, logistics, transport, agriculture or other practical roles may be useful, but is not essential. We welcome applicants looking to start their career or move into something different.
