Great workshops don’t just need good technicians. They need great leaders.

Mackay, QLD | Full-Time | Competitive Salary + Company Vehicle

Are you a technically strong workshop leader who knows how to get the best out of people?

At NB Industries, we’re looking for an experienced and motivated Workshop Controller to lead our Auto Electrical and Mechanical team in Paget, Mackay.

We’re not simply looking for someone to allocate jobs, manage schedules and keep the workshop moving. We’re looking for someone who brings strong industry experience, sound technical knowledge and, most importantly, the leadership skills to motivate, mentor and bring out the very best in the people around them.

Someone who leads by example, earns the respect of their team, takes pride in delivering high-quality work and understands that a successful workshop is built around its people.

If you’re passionate about the automotive industry, enjoy solving technical challenges and get genuine satisfaction from seeing your team grow and succeed, we’d love to hear from you.

About NB Industries

NB Industries is a proudly 100% Queensland-owned business with a strong reputation across the automotive, mining and industrial sectors.

We’ve built our business around delivering quality outcomes, building strong customer relationships and investing in the people who make it all possible.

Our core values guide everything we do:

Attitude is Everything | Teamwork | Quality Without Compromise | Strong Relationships | Solve & Share | Integrity

While we’re proud of what we’ve achieved, we’re always looking for ways to grow, improve and evolve. One thing that will never change, however, is our commitment to our people and the important role they play in our continued success. We believe that great leadership creates great teams, and great teams create successful businesses.

The Chance

As our Workshop Controller, you’ll play a key role in leading the day-to-day operations of our Auto Electrical and Mechanical Workshop.

Working alongside our Service Advisor and broader leadership team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our workshop operates efficiently, our technicians are supported and our customers continue to receive the high standard of service NB Industries is known for.

While workshop productivity, job quality and customer satisfaction are important measures of success, your ability to develop a motivated, capable and high-performing team will be equally important.

We want someone who is approachable,

hands-on when required and comfortable making decisions. Someone who can recognise individual strengths, identify opportunities for improvement and create an environment where people feel valued, supported and proud of the work they deliver.

What You’ll Be Doing

Leading and Developing Our People

- Lead, motivate and mentor our team of Auto Electricians, Mechanics and Apprentices.

- Create a positive and accountable workshop culture where teamwork, respect and quality come first.

- Identify individual strengths and development opportunities to help technicians reach their full potential.

- Provide technical guidance, support and coaching when challenges arise.

- Lead by example and encourage open communication, problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Workshop Operations & Technical Leadership

- Oversee daily workshop operations, workflow and scheduling alongside our Service Advisor.

- Use your industry experience and technical knowledge to support complex diagnostics, repairs and workshop decisions.

- Monitor productivity, job progress and efficiency while maintaining high standards of work.

- Ensure quality assurance processes are followed, with a strong focus on preventing rework.

- Identify opportunities to improve workshop systems, processes and overall performance.

- Provide hands-on technical assistance when required.

Customer Relationships & Business Performance

- Build and maintain strong relationships with our valued customers.

- Ensure clear communication, realistic expectations and a consistently positive customer experience.

- Work closely with the leadership team to improve operational performance and support business growth.

- Take ownership of workshop outcomes and contribute ideas that help drive NB Industries forward.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical ability with genuine people leadership.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

- Extensive experience in the automotive, auto electrical, mechanical or heavy vehicle industry.

- A relevant trade qualification in Automotive Mechanical or Auto Electrical.

- Previous experience as a Workshop Controller,

Workshop Supervisor, Leading Hand or similar leadership position.

- Strong technical knowledge with the confidence to support technicians and guide complex repairs and diagnostics.

- Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.

- A positive, approachable leadership style that earns trust and respect.

- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing workshop priorities.

- A commitment to quality, safety and customer service.

- A proactive attitude and the confidence to make decisions, solve problems and take ownership.

Most importantly, we’re looking for the right person, not simply the right resume.

Technical experience is essential, but attitude, leadership ability and cultural fit are just as important to us.

We want someone who genuinely cares about their team, celebrates their successes, supports them through challenges and takes pride in helping others become better at what they do.
