Where You’ll Be Working
Kurri Kurri Hospital Operating Theatres is a small, close-knit perioperative team providing elective surgical services to the local community. The department operates one theatre, supported by a multidisciplinary team of nurses, surgeons, anaesthetists, CSSD staff and operational support staff.
The team works collaboratively to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of theatre lists and the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care. As a smaller rural facility, staff have the opportunity to work closely with one another, develop a broad range of skills and contribute to a supportive and welcoming team environment.
About You
Previous experience working within an operating theatre or other clinical healthcare environment would be highly desirable but is not essential.
Experience in supporting perioperative services, handling clinical equipment and understanding infection prevention and control principles would be advantageous.
Experience with ophthalmic laser equipment and its setup would be highly regarded but is not essential, as training can be provided on the job. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a willingness to learn, follow instructions and develop the skills required for the role.
The ideal candidate will be reliable, organised, proactive and able to work both independently and as part of a small multidisciplinary team. They will have good communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrate initiative and be willing to assist wherever needed to support the daily operational requirements of the operating theatre.
Attention to detail, flexibility, time management and the ability to prioritise tasks are important, particularly in a busy perioperative environment where patient flow and theatre efficiency are essential. An understanding of infection prevention and control, safe manual handling and workplace health and safety is also highly desirable.
The most crucial attributes are reliability, a positive attitude, willingness to learn, good work ethic and the ability to work collaboratively with others. Specific skills, including the setup of ophthalmic laser equipment, theatre preparation and other role-specific tasks, can be taught and developed through on-the-job training and support.
