What a locksmith career offers

Locksmithing is a unique and highly specialised trade that combines hands-on skills, problem-solving and the latest security technologies. You’ll learn valuable skills that help protect homes, businesses and vehicles, making

locksmithing an essential trade in an ever-changing world. No two days are the same. From working with traditional locks and keys to programming car keys and installing advanced digital security systems, there’s always something current to learn. With opportunities to specialise, develop your skills and earn additional income through after-hours work, locksmithing offers a rewarding career with plenty of room to grow.

The apprentice role

This isn’t your usual apprenticeship hanging around a workshop or running errands. From day one, you’ll be out on the road, learning directly from an experienced locksmith, getting stuck into real hands-on work and being supported every step of the way. Alongside your TAFE studies, throughout your apprenticeship you’ll gain practical experience in:

- Learning to use specialised locksmith tools, equipment and key-cutting machinery
- Gaining entry to locks and safes, plus rekeying,

repairing and installing locks for homes and businesses
- Working with the latest digital and smart lock technologies and modern security solutions
- Cutting and programming automotive keys and remotes, including modern vehicle security systems
- Diagnosing and solving security challenges across residential, commercial and automotive jobs
- And so much more! No two days are the same in this highly specialised trade.

Who you are

You take pride in your work and stick with the job until it’s done right. You’re a good listener, take direction well and aren’t afraid to ask questions or give something new a go. You enjoy finding practical solutions and are eager to keep learning, especially when it comes to new technologies and products. You’re looking for a long-term career where you can learn directly from an experienced locksmith and grow within a close-knit team. You bring a friendly, easygoing vibe and don’t mind a bit of casual banter with colleagues and customers alike.

How to apply

If you’re keen to learn a trade, enjoy working with your hands and want to be part of a supportive, growing team, we’d love to hear from you! You don’t need any locksmithing experience, just a great attitude, a willingness to learn and the motivation to give it your best.

To apply, send us your resume and a short cover letter telling us a bit about yourself, why locksmithing interests you and why you’d like to join the Shoreline Locksmiths team as our next apprentice.
