About the role

As Learning & Capability Manager, you'll lead how our people learn, from their first day through to their next career step. You'll set our learning strategy, look after mandatory training and competencies, and make sure our education keeps pace with regulatory change. You'll also lead a small team of Learning & Capability Coordinators who work alongside staff on the floor, helping them put training into practice.

Why this role matters

Aged care has changed a lot in the past few years, and the new Aged Care Act and Strengthened Quality Standards have raised the bar again. Good training is no longer just a compliance exercise. It’s how we make sure every resident receives safe, respectful care, and how we keep good staff for the long term.

Mayflower Academy is our learning and development function, and it’s still growing. We’re looking for someone to take it forward: to build on the strengths that are already in place and create a learning culture that staff value.

Key responsibilities

- Running and improving our training and competency programs across all homes

- Managing Ausmed and our learning records, and turning the data into clear, useful reports for the executive team, QCAB and the Board

- Working with General Managers and Care Managers to spot where staff need more support, then designing education that actually helps

- Using audit results, incidents and quality indicators to target training where it will make the biggest difference to residents

- Building leadership and career pathways, so high performing people want to grow with us

- Helping our homes prepare for audits and accreditation, with training and competency records that stand up to scrutiny

- Working with education providers, including our student placement partners, to bring new people into aged care

About you

- Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration

- At least five years' clinical experience in aged care or a similar healthcare setting

- Led learning and development or workforce capability programs before, ideally in aged care

- Sound understanding of the Aged Care Act 2024, the Strengthened Quality Standards and the Aged Care Rules

- Hands-on experience with learning management systems such as Ausmed, and confidence using SharePoint

- Ability to explain regulatory requirements to a PCA on the floor just as easily as to leadership

- Strong reporting and analytical skills, with experience preparing reports for senior leaders or governance committees

- Coaching style of leadership, and the ability to bring people with you

- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, an adult education qualification or experience setting up a learning academy would be a real advantage

Benefits

- Salary packaging that has a genuine impact on your take home pay

- A supportive, values-led workplace where your work makes a visible difference

- The chance to shape a learning academy that's still growing, with the backing of the executive team

- Ongoing professional development

- Retail Discounts

- Access to our EAP programme
