About the Role
Mehr Care, an NDIS registered provider, is seeking a compassionate, patient and emotionally intelligent Support Worker. You will support a female NDIS participant who needs assistance with community engagement, emotional support and light mobility support. This role is best suited to a female support worker, in line with the participant’s preferences.

The role involves providing person-centred support to NDIS participants, including emotional support, meaningful conversation, and access to the community through activities such as shopping and social outings. The ideal candidate is calm, adaptable and confident supporting people with a range of needs, including participants who may experience emotional dysregulation or fatigue. Flexibility, consistency and understanding are essential.

This is a casual position based in Reynella and the surrounding southern suburbs.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide emotional and psychological support in a respectful, patient, non-judgemental and neuro-affirming way
- Adapt your communication to the participant’s preferences, using clear language and visual or written supports where helpful
- Recognise sensory needs and early signs of distress or overload, and respond calmly to help the participant regulate
- Provide consistent, predictable support and prepare the participant in advance for any changes to plans or routine
- Follow any support plans or guidelines in place
- Support the participant during community access activities, including:
- School pick up - drop off
- Dining out
- Social engagement
- Provide walking support as required (no heavy lifting)
- Drop the participant off close to entrances to minimise fatigue
- Engage in meaningful conversation and companionship
- Maintain professional boundaries while building rapport and trust
- Complete clear, accurate shift notes and report concerns or incidents in line with NDIS requirements

Essential Skills & Experience





- High level of patience, empathy and emotional awareness
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience or understanding of supporting neurodivergent people, including autistic adults
- Awareness of sensory processing needs and communication differences
- Ability to support clients who experience emotional dysregulation, using calm, low-arousal strategies
- Understanding of client-led, trauma-informed and person-centred care
- Sound understanding of participant rights, choice and control, and the NDIS Code of Conduct
- Reliable, calm and flexible approach to support work
- Basic digital literacy for rostering and shift notes

Desirable

- Experience providing emotional, psychological or mental health support
- Training in autism, Positive Behaviour Support or Mental Health First Aid
- Completion of the NDIS module “Supporting Effective Communication”
- Ability to speak a language other than English (Farsi or Dari highly regarded)

Requirements

- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support (Disability), or an equivalent qualification
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current DHS Working with Children Check
- Completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module (“Quality, Safety and You”)
- Current First Aid Certificate and CPR (renewed annually)
- Manual handling training
- Infection prevention and control training
- National Police Check
- Current unrestricted Australian driver’s licence, with a registered, comprehensively insured vehicle suitable for business use
- Willingness to transport the participant and provide short-distance drop-offs
- Availability for morning and evening shifts
- Legal entitlement to work in Australia

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $36.00 per hour

Expected hours: 3.0 – 15.0 per week
