The Optical Nook | Milton, Brisbane

Join a growing boutique optometry practice in Milton.

After more than 30 years on Park Road, The Optical Nook has an established reputation for providing expert care. Alongside expansion plans to grow from one testing room to two, we'd like to welcome some new faces to join our close-knit team. It’s the perfect time to start your new journey - learn and grow together.

We're looking for personable, self-motivated people with a flair for frame styling, or experience working in a boutique sales or health care environment. This is a varied, hands-on role working across both the retail and clinical sides of the practice, supporting an overall patient experience we're proud of.

Why join us

- A beautiful place to work: our practice sits in a newly renovated heritage space in Milton, with a boutique feel.
- Boutique collections: you'll work hands-on with curated independent and boutique eyewear, with the training and support to style it with confidence.
- Creative input: help shape how our collections are showcased, in the practice and on our social media.
- A supportive team: a friendly, close-knit independent team where your ideas are heard and your initiative is noticed.
- Training and development: full on-the-job training in dispensing, pre-testing and specialty eyewear, in a practice that's growing.
- Perks: staff discounts and optical allowances; a flexible part-time roster across Monday to Saturday; a convenient Park Road location with great public transport and free undercover parking; future career development opportunities available, if desired.

Why we're hiring now

Alongside our planned expansion, one of our valued team members will soon be moving back home to the UK. With this foresight, we’d like to smoothly transition in new team members ahead of this.

What you'll be doing

This is a varied, multi-skilled role.

You'll move between the dispensing floor, front desk and pre-test room, often within the same hour. It suits someone who enjoys variety and can switch focus smoothly while keeping every patient well looked after.
Your day may include:

- Styling patients in our boutique frames and making the experience enjoyable
- Recommending lenses and eyewear, and taking ownership of sales from first try-on to collection
- Creating social media posts and content that showcase our latest collections
- Merchandising displays and keeping the practice looking its best
- Reception, appointment coordination and recalls
- Pre-testing, including imaging and visual fields (full training provided)

About you

- You're personable and engaging, and go above and beyond to provide attentive customer care
- You're confident in sales and take pride in finding the right frame for each patient
- You have a flair for fashion and a polished, professional approach
- You're self-driven, show initiative and eager to learn
- You're comfortable multitasking across styling, clinical support and admin
- You’re organised and reliable, with a high attention to detail
- Social media skills are highly regarded
- Optical dispensing experience is highly regarded; a background in healthcare, fashion retail, or medical reception are also considered highly transferable to the role
- Experience with Optomate is helpful, but not essential
