Position: Retail Yardperson / Loader Operator
Reports to: Yard Manager

Location: Busselton or Dunsborough, WA

Position Overview

We are looking for a friendly, reliable and hardworking Retail Yardperson to join our busy landscape supply and garden centre team.

This is a hands-on, customer-focused role involving serving customers, loading landscape products, operating machinery, maintaining the yard and ensuring our customers receive the friendly, efficient service Soils is known for.

The successful applicant will enjoy working outdoors, being physically active and contributing to a positive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Customer Service & Retail

- Greet customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Assist customers with selecting landscape and garden products.
- Provide basic product advice, including quantities, uses and availability.
- Process sales accurately through the point-of-sale system.
- Answer customer enquiries in person and over the phone.
- Assist customers with loading purchases into vehicles and trailers.
- Promote additional products and services where appropriate.
- Maintain a high standard of customer service at all times.

2. Yard Operations & Machinery

- Safely operate front-end loaders and forklifts where trained and authorised.
- Load bulk products including soils, mulches, sands, gravels and decorative stones.
- Load bagged products, pavers and other landscape materials.
- Ensure correct products and quantities are supplied.
- Assist with incoming deliveries and unloading stock.
- Complete machinery pre-start checks and report faults or maintenance requirements.
- Keep bulk bays stocked, tidy and clearly identified.
- Follow safe loading procedures and ensure customer and staff safety.

3. Stock Management & Presentation

- Replenish stock throughout the yard and retail areas.




- Assist with stocktakes and inventory control.
- Maintain clean, tidy and well-presented product displays.
- Ensure products are correctly priced and labelled.
- Report low stock levels, damaged products or stock discrepancies.
- Assist with merchandising and promotional displays.

4. General Yard Maintenance

- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Sweep, tidy and maintain customer drive-through areas.
- Keep pathways, loading zones and bulk bays clear.
- Assist with general maintenance and yard improvements.
- Ensure tools and equipment are stored correctly.
- Support nursery staff and other team members when required.

5. Workplace Health & Safety

- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Operate machinery only when trained and authorised.
- Follow safe manual handling practices.
- Report hazards, incidents and equipment faults promptly.
- Maintain awareness of pedestrians, customers and moving vehicles throughout the yard.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

- Reliable, punctual and able to follow instructions.
- Basic computer and cash-handling skills, or willingness to learn.
- Willingness to work weekends as rostered.

Highly Regarded:

- Front-end loader experience.
- Forklift licence.
- Previous retail or customer service experience.
- Knowledge of landscape supplies, soils, mulches and garden products.




- Experience working in a landscape yard, hardware store or garden centre.

Pay: $34.00 – $52.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30.0 – 40.0 per week
