About the role

Power Grid Engineers is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Technician specialising in high-voltage testing and commissioning to join our team in Sydney.The successful applicant will provide technical support for the testing, inspection, commissioning and maintenance of high-voltage electrical equipment and power distribution systems. Working alongside engineers, project managers and site personnel, you will operate specialised testing equipment, conduct electrical measurements, analyse test results and assist in identifying faults to ensure electrical systems operate safely, reliably and in accordance with applicable standards and project requirements.This is a hands-on, technical position involving both site-based and office-based activities across a range of electrical infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare and update technical drawings, plans and diagrams of electrical installations, circuitry and high-voltage systems.
- Assist Electrical Engineers and Engineering Technologists with the design and layout of electrical installations, including substations, switchgear, cabling systems and motor control systems.
- Collect electrical data, conduct technical tests and perform calculations to assess equipment performance and electrical system functionality.
- Analyse test results and prepare graphs, charts, tabulations and technical reports to document findings and support engineering assessments.
- Assist with estimating material quantities, equipment requirements and costs for electrical installations, testing and commissioning activities.
- Inspect electrical equipment, installation layouts and completed works to check compliance with technical specifications, applicable standards and safety requirements.
- Assemble, install, test, calibrate, modify and repair electrical equipment and installations in accordance with technical instructions and relevant regulations.
- Conduct diagnostic and performance testing of high-voltage equipment, including transformers, switchgear,



circuit breakers and associated electrical components.
- Assist with installing, testing and verifying protection relays, metering instruments, indicating devices and electrical control components.
- Record test measurements, identify abnormal results and report equipment defects or discrepancies to the relevant engineering personnel.
- Maintain technical records covering test results, equipment specifications, calibration activities, inspections and commissioning outcomes.
- Assist with technical research, experimentation and testing programs to evaluate electrical equipment performance and support improvements to testing procedures

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A relevant AQF Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma qualification or 3 years relevant employment history may substitute for no formal qualification
- At least 1 year of relevant employment experience .
- Knowledge of electrical testing procedures, commissioning practices, Australian Standards and safety requirements.
- Ability to prepare technical test reports, inspection records and commissioning documentation.
- Solid troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with engineers and project teams.
- Functional English communication skills to understand technical instructions, document test results and communicate findings.
- Commitment to workplace safety when working with high-voltage electrical systems.
- Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites across Sydney and surrounding regions.
