Assistant Director, Projects

The Policy, Strategy and Projects Branch in Economic Development is seeking a motivated and capable Assistant Director to join the Projects team.

This role offers the prospect to lead and contribute to complex, high-profile projects that support economic growth, investment and workforce development across the Territory. Working in a dynamic environment, you will navigate ambiguity, manage competing interests and provide strategic advice on projects that often involve multiple stakeholders, evolving requirements and complex delivery challenges.

You will work collaboratively across government and with external partners to drive project outcomes, establish effective governance arrangements and support decision-making. The role requires sound judgement, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver results in situations where there may not always be a clear path forward.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

The following experience would be highly regarded:

- Experience managing or supporting complex procurement processes and contract management activities.

- Knowledge of ACT Government governance, procurement and decision-making frameworks.
- Experience working across multidisciplinary teams and delivering projects involving multiple stakeholders and competing interests.

Notes: This is a temporary position available from 15 December 2026 until 30 April 2027 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.

Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.

How to Apply: Applicants are required to submit:

- A current curriculum vitae; and
- A two-page statement outlining how their skills, experience and capabilities align with the requirements of the role.

Applications should be submitted .

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.

Where an offer of employment is for a fixed-term period, any related temporary contracts within the Territory will be issued in compliance with the requirements and applicable exceptions outlined in the Fair Work Act.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved. More information can be found here ACT Closing the Gap Implementation Plan - ACT Government Transparency Portal.
