Company description:

Snowy Hydro is a agile, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the iconic Snowy Hydro-electric Scheme, gas and diesel electricity generating plants, and contracted wind and solar energy in the National Electricity Market. We also provide electricity and gas to over 1.5 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy.

Snowy 2.0, currently under construction, is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

Job description:

Are you an experienced mechanical professional who loves being on the ground, driving quality, and ensuring major infrastructure projects are built to the absolute highest standard?

We are looking for a dedicated Technical Officer - Mechanical to join the Owner's Team on the landmark Snowy 2.0 project. In this hands-on, onsite role, you won't just be reviewing progress from a desk—you will be an active presence across active and non-active work fronts, providing vital technical site surveillance and quality assurance

Key Responsibilities:

- Active Site Surveillance: Conducting daily inspections of active and non-active mechanical work fronts, capturing detailed plant, labour, equipment records, and photographic logs via ACONEX.

- Contractor Oversight:

Working collaboratively with contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with CMS standards, design requirements, and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) guidelines.

- Quality & Safety Assurance: Overseeing Witness and Hold Points (ITPs), ensuring works align with the latest IFC drawings and specifications, and championing safety culture alongside our safety and environmental teams.

- Problem Solving & Communication: Acting as a bridge between the field and the Mechanical Engineers, keeping your manager informed and proactively resolving issues before they become legacy problems.

- Relationship Building: Fostering strong, open, and honest working relationships with contractors, sub-contractors, and internal stakeholders to drive joint problem-solving and a collaborative team environment.

About the location:

This role is located at our Lobs Hole site, working a 14/7 FIFO roster. Standard FIFO and Camp arrangement included.

About you:

- Experience: Previous experience in similar technical or surveillance roles within major infrastructure construction or related industries.

- Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (desirable) or a robust construction trade background backed by relevant training and experience.

- Core Skills:

Exceptional influencing and negotiation skills, proactive decision-making capabilities, and a talent for managing change seamlessly.

- Communication: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently across all levels—from on-the-ground workforce to project managers.

- HSE Alignment: A strong personal commitment to workplace safety and a working style that treats partnerships and mutual cooperation as the foundation of success.

About our workforce:

At Snowy Hydro, we recognise that we are made stronger by the unique capabilities and qualities that each individual brings, and we believe in providing an environment that allows that uniqueness to thrive.
