Melbourne | Hybrid | $180,000 to $220,000 plus superannuation
An ASX listed technology group is appointing a Commercial Finance Manager to lead finance for its software business unit. The role is the single finance partner to the unit's leadership team and owns the P&L.; It sits at the point where commercial decisions are made, not after them.
The group is profitable and growing, with a global footprint and a strong recent result. Its software business is a deliberate growth focus, built through product investment and a series of acquisitions. Leadership is largely based in Australia, and operations and customers are spread internationally.
The business unit has scale, ambition and executive attention. What it needs now is a senior finance lead to bring commercial discipline to how it plans, reports and grows. Systems and processes are still maturing, so the person in this seat will shape the framework rather than inherit one.
The Role
Business partnering
Act as the trusted finance partner to the business unit Chief, General Managers and functional leads across product, software, R&D;, sales and operations
Partner leadership on strategy, growth initiatives and capital allocation decisions
Provide forward looking insight and commercial challenge on business cases, pricing, product economics, ROI and scenario modelling
Translate financial performance into a clear narrative for people outside finance, and build financial understanding across the leadership group
Own the relationship between the business unit and group finance, resolving matters that cross business boundaries
Planning and performance
Lead the annual budget, forecast and rolling forecast for the business unit
Own monthly management reporting and performance commentary to group and business unit leadership
Give explicit visibility of actual, budget and forecast results,



product economics and key metrics, so leadership is never surprised
Own the P&L; outcome and review the month end result, working with the processing team to improve close timing, accuracy and consistency
Policy, systems and integration
Shape cost accounting principles and policy that suit a software business
Work with group finance so revenue recognition is fit for a subscription model
Embed acquired businesses into one framework, aligning the chart of accounts, cost centres, reporting and product economics
Be the business unit's finance contact for integration milestones, building processes that are repeatable and not dependent on one person
Leadership
Lead and develop a small team of two, with real responsibility delegated to the direct report
Bring a practical view on using AI and automation to improve finance processes
Degree qualified, CA or CPA, with around ten years in listed, multinational or scaling businesses
Lead finance business partnering experience, ideally within a software or digital business
Strong commercial judgement and the confidence to challenge assumptions while staying independent
The ability to explain complex financial information clearly, in writing and in person, to senior and technical audiences
Sound attention to detail alongside a big picture view, and comfort with ambiguity and change
Integration, revenue recognition or cost accounting design experience is valued. TM1 and Power BI exposure is helpful but not essential

Total package of $180,000 to $220,000 plus super, depending on experience. Hybrid working from Melbourne.
You will have direct ownership of a growing software P&L; and a seat with the leadership team. You will also have real influence over how the business is structured as it scales. The backing of a profitable listed group means the role offers both build work and stability, which is rarely found together.
