McPherson Media Group is looking for an Agriculture Editor to lead our rural content.Country News, our flagship rural news publication and a trusted voice for farming communities across the Goulburn Valley and southern NSW, sits at the heart of this role.
But this is not a print-only position.
You'll take ownership of agricultural content across MMG's digital products and platforms, shaping what rural audiences see online, on social media, in their inbox and in the paper.About the roleReporting to the Chief Content Officer, you'll set the direction for agricultural coverage across MMG.
You'll work with journalists, editors and contributors across our mastheads to find, develop and place the stories that matter most to rural communities.You'll be a digital-first storyteller.
That means producing reels and social content that connects with farming audiences, using newsletters and the MMG website to reach readers in current ways, and extending stories through reporting that captures the mood on the land.You will lead by example, writing issues-based news stories and features that set the standard for agricultural journalism across the group.What you'll doWrite daily news and feature articles on the issues that matter to rural readersLead agricultural content planning and daily content decisions across MMG,



including Country NewsCoordinate rural content across digital, social, newsletter and printCapture reels and social media content for rural, regional and farming audiencesGrow digital engagement, reach and subscriptions, using performance data to guide your decisionsGuide contributors and newsroom staff on agricultural content, upholding accuracy and fairnessBuild trusted relationships with farming communities, industry bodies and stakeholdersAbout youStrong news judgement and a sound understanding of editorial standards, ethics and media lawThe ability to write accurately on agricultural issues to tight deadlinesExperience in a digital-first editorial or content role, ideally in rural, regional or agricultural mediaHands-on social media skills, including reels and video storytellingAn understanding of rural audiences, from long-standing subscribers to the next generation of farming familiesExcellent communication, planning and organisational skillsLived experience of life on the land, or a strong connection to farming communities, will be highly regarded.Why join usThis is a chance to shape how MMG's historic rural mastheads serve and grow with their audiences for generations to come.
