We are currently recruiting for a well-established organisation operating a major interstate freight facility in Altona. The business specializes in the maintenance and servicing of locomotive trains, ensuring its rolling stock operates safely, efficiently and reliably.

Following the transition of maintenance operations in-house, the business is experiencing an increase in workload and is looking to expand its maintenance team with several new permanent positions.

We have the following opportunities available:
1x Maintenance Fitter
1x Maintenance Electrician

About the Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, you will play an important role in maintaining and servicing locomotive rolling stock to ensure all equipment operates to a high standard and meets required safety and maintenance standards.

This is a hands-on role where no two days are necessarily the same. Working alongside engineers, supervisors, planners and other trades, you will be involved in both scheduled preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

- Completing general locomotive inspections and trip inspections.

- Performing preventative and scheduled maintenance.

- Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical faults.

- Refuelling locomotives and completing basic operational checks.

- Adjusting, aligning, calibrating, cleaning, lubricating and testing equipment.

- Repairing, refurbishing,



servicing and restoring locomotive components.

- Responding to urgent maintenance issues and breakdowns as required.

- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.

- Maintaining accurate maintenance records and completing relevant paperwork.

- Following safe work instructions, company policies and maintenance procedures.

- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work environment.

You will need to be comfortable working in a dynamic maintenance environment where priorities can change throughout the day. While preventative maintenance is a key focus, reactive maintenance and urgent repairs will also form part of the role.

The work can be hands-on and physically demanding at times, so a practical approach and willingness to get involved are essential.

About You

We are interested in candidates who have a strong maintenance background, a proactive attitude and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

For the Fitter and Electrician positions, you will ideally have:

- A recognised Trade Certificate in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance or a relevant mechanical/electrical trade qualification.

- Mechanical, Electrical or Dual Trade qualifications.

- Experience in maintenance, repairs and fault finding.

- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

- A high level of attention to detail.
