A well-established engineering consultancy is seeking Primary Design Engineer's to join its expanding Sydney power team.

With a strong pipeline of transmission, renewable energy, utility and grid infrastructure projects across NSW and the broader National Electricity Market, this is an opportunity to work on some of Australia's most significant energy transition projects while collaborating with industry-leading technical specialists.

This role will see you delivering primary design solutions for high-voltage substations and transmission infrastructure from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

The Opportunity

As part of a highly regarded Power & Energy team, you will play a key role in the delivery of major utility, renewable generation and network augmentation projects ranging from 132kV through to 500kV.

You will work closely with clients, project managers, secondary engineers, civil/structural teams and multidisciplinary design groups to deliver innovative, practical and technically robust solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and deliver primary substation designs for transmission and distribution projects

- Develop and review:

- General arrangements

- Equipment layouts

- Busbar and switchyard configurations

- Electrical clearances

- Earthing and lightning protection systems

- Cable routing and equipment integration designs

- Perform engineering calculations and technical assessments

- Prepare technical specifications,



reports and design documentation

- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers

- Participate in client workshops, design reviews and stakeholder meetings

- Support project delivery through construction and commissioning phases

- Ensure designs comply with Australian Standards, utility requirements and industry best practice

About You

- Degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering

- Experience in primary substation design

- Experience delivering projects across transmission, utilities, renewables, consulting or EPC environments

- Solid understanding of:

- HV substations

- AIS and GIS switchyards

- Transformers and reactive plant

- Earthing systems

- Electrical clearances and insulation coordination

- Familiarity with Australian utility standards and industry regulations

- Experience using AutoCAD, MicroStation or similar design platforms

- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

- Chartered status or progress towards CPEng highly regarded
