Join a major Queensland Government department responsible for delivering policy and operational outcomes across the state's transport network. This team works with government, regulators, road managers and industry to improve heavy vehicle access and freight productivity while balancing safety, infrastructure and community considerations.

Your recent role

As the Senior Policy Advisor, you will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of heavy vehicle policy and productivity initiatives. Working within the Heavy Vehicle Policy and Productivity team, you will translate complex access issues, trials and emerging reforms into practical, evidence-based policy outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading policy analysis, options development and implementation planning for priority freight and heavy vehicle access initiatives
- Developing frameworks for trials, pilots and access investigations, including governance, risk controls, compliance, monitoring and evaluation
- Preparing evidence and impact assessments covering safety, infrastructure, operational, industry and community considerations
- Providing clear recommendations regarding proposed heavy vehicle access arrangements
- Coordinating consultation across departmental districts, technical specialists, asset owners, local government, regulators and industry
- Preparing executive and Ministerial briefings, correspondence, decision records and implementation advice
- Translating approved outcomes into policies, guidelines, access scheme updates, mapping changes, permit conditions and operational guidance
- Evaluating trials and documenting outcomes, benefits, lessons learnt,



residual risks and recommended next steps

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

- Substantial experience researching, developing, implementing and evaluating public policy
- The ability to independently manage policy work packages and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex policy, regulatory, operational and technical information
- Experience assessing risks and impacts and developing practical, evidence-based recommendations
- Sound judgement when managing complex or contested policy matters
- Strong stakeholder consultation, engagement and negotiation capabilities
- Experience coordinating input from technical, operational, regulatory and industry stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to prepare authoritative policy papers, assessment briefs, executive or Ministerial advice and evaluation reports
- Knowledge of heavy vehicle access, freight policy, road manager responsibilities, transport regulation or network operations will be highly regarded
