About us
Patrick Terminals is Australia's largest and most advanced container terminal operator managing terminals at Port Botany in Sydney, East Swanson Dock in Melbourne, Fremantle in Western Australia and Fisherman Islands in Brisbane. At Patrick, we are committed to building a workplace that enables diversity of thought, fresh perspectives, innovative decision making and ultimately, better business outcomes. We want people to join our team who align to our values of Everyone Home Safely Every Day, Take Ownership, Lead Change and Tireless Pursuit of Outcomes.
About the role
Patrick is seeking an experienced IT Operations Manager to lead the day to day performance of our IT workplace across our terminals. Reporting to the Portfolio and Delivery Manager, you’ll provide hands-on leadership and guide a talented team.
In this newly created role, you will design, implement and maintain the operating model for IT Operations. This means embedding operating standards that meet our legislative and regulatory obligations, and setting the operational rhythms that keep our environment running efficiently. Along the way, you’ll strengthen how we deliver services and make a lasting contribution to the development of our IT operations. This is a rare chance to shape how the environment operates for the long term, rather than inherit an already mature model.
This role is based at our Port Botany HO, with a hybrid working and flexible model.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Develop and maintain technology best practice frameworks to enhance standards, ensure effective and efficient practices
- Ensure compliance with best practice frameworks, legislation and regulatory requirements
- Support Developers in providing operational readiness requirements across technology
- Support platform modernisation and transformation initiatives
- Ensure fast resolution of high-priority operational issues.
- Champion proactive/predictive monitoring and automation to reduce incident volume and severity.
- Manage and optimise third-party vendors, SaaS platforms, and technology partnerships
- Provide clear reporting and updates
- Oversee key initiatives, managing interdependencies across multiple approved projects to ensure they are operationally ready.
- Drive continuous improvement in processes, governance and supporting the implementation of key initiatives
- Work closely with key business stakeholders and external suppliers to support work operations seamlessly.
About your skills and experience
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proven experience establishing, managing and governing IT operations.
- Experience managing relationships with external solution partners, including performance management and issue resolution.
- Familiarity with AIOps/automation tooling and a track record of reducing manual operational toil.
- Proven experience at embedding a structured approach to defining and measuring service reliability
- Calm judgement in high-pressure operational situations
- Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
- Maintain a team focus, with willingness to work hands-on with a “can do” attitude.
- Able to obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
