We are looking for someone who can confidently take charge of a shift, make sound operational decisions and maintain standards while contributing positively to the broader supervisory team.
Key Responsibilities
Front of House Operations
- Take ownership of allocated shifts and ensure front-of-house operations run efficiently and professionally.
- Work collaboratively with fellow supervisors to maintain consistency across all Club operations.
- Independently lead and manage shifts, including opening and closing procedures.
- Maintain exceptional standards of service, presentation, cleanliness and operational readiness.
- Oversee bar operations, beverage service and food service.
- Be visible and actively involved on the floor, particularly during busy service periods and functions.
- Identify and resolve operational issues promptly, using sound judgement and initiative.
- Ensure the Clubhouse and service areas are appropriately staffed, prepared and presented.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, motivate and support food and beverage attendants, setting clear expectations and leading by example.
- Confidently allocate duties, coordinate staff and manage service priorities.
- Provide direction, coaching and on-the-job training to permanent and casual team members.
- Build a positive, professional and accountable team culture.
- Work constructively with other supervisors, sharing information, supporting colleagues and ensuring effective shift handovers.
- Communicate operational matters, staffing requirements and service issues to management and fellow supervisors.
- Remain calm,
decisive and solutions-focused when managing competing priorities or challenging situations.
Member & Guest Experience
- Deliver a welcoming, professional and personalised experience to members, guests and visitors.
- Build positive relationships with members and understand the importance of a member-focused club environment.
- Handle enquiries, feedback and complaints confidently and professionally.
- Lead by example in delivering genuine hospitality and consistently high service standards.
- Take ownership of service issues and ensure appropriate follow-through.
Functions & Events
- Coordinate front-of-house requirements for functions, events and special occasions.
- Oversee function setups, service delivery and pack-downs.
- Work closely with fellow supervisors, the Food, Beverage & Events Manager and other departments to ensure events run smoothly.
- Ensure staffing, equipment, beverages and service requirements are organised and ready ahead of each event.
- Maintain high service standards throughout functions, regardless of size or complexity.
Compliance & Administration
- Ensure responsible service of alcohol requirements are understood and consistently enforced.
- Maintain compliance with RSA, food safety, workplace health and safety and Club procedures.
- Assist with stock control, ordering, beverage presentation and general operational administration.
- Support food handling and basic food preparation when required.
- Ensure bar procedures, cash handling and closing requirements are completed accurately.
About You – What We Are Looking For
We are looking for an exceptional, local, happy and fun, front-of-house operator with proven hospitality experience and the confidence to take responsibility for an operation, while contributing positively to a team of supervisors.
You will ideally bring:
- At least 4–5 years' hospitality experience, with substantial experience in a supervisory, senior service or operational leadership position.
- Demonstrated experience independently running shifts and managing front-of-house operations.
- Solid and practical bar experience, including bar setup, beverage service, cash handling and closing procedures.
- A current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate and a thorough understanding of responsible alcohol service obligations.
- A current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
- A confident, hands-on leadership style and the ability to lead by example.
- The ability to work independently while being a reliable and supportive member of a supervisory team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to make decisions, solve problems and manage challenging situations without constant supervision.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy hospitality environment.
- A genuine passion for hospitality, service excellence and creating memorable experiences.
- Professional presentation and a positive, can-do attitude.
Experience in a private members' club, yacht club, hotel, premium restaurant, bar or high-volume function venue will be highly regarded.
Most importantly, we want someone who can hit the ground running.
You should be confident walking into a busy service environment, understanding what needs to happen and taking charge of the floor. You will have the maturity, experience and initiative to earn the respect of your team, the confidence of management and the trust of your fellow supervisors.
Working Hours & Roster
The Club operates seven days a week, and this is a full-time position requiring availability across all seven days on a rotating roster, including weekdays, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Flexibility is essential, and you will be required to work a combination of opening, daytime and evening shifts depending on operational requirements and the Club's events calendar.
Importantly, RPAYC is not a late-night venue. Our food, beverage and events operations are centred around daytime, afternoon and evening trade, rather than late-night hospitality. There is no expectation of regularly working into the early hours of the morning.
Rosters are published in advance, allowing our team to plan their personal commitments.
A Better Work-Life Balance in Hospitality
We understand that hospitality can be a demanding industry, and that having a rewarding career should not come at the expense of your personal life.
At the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, we aim to provide a positive and sustainable working environment where our team can enjoy both their work and their time outside the Club.
Unlike traditional late-night hospitality venues, RPAYC offers a more balanced hospitality environment, with operations focused on daytime, afternoon and evening service.
We place importance on:
- Rosters published in advance to allow you to plan your personal commitments.
- A rotating roster that provides a fair distribution of shifts across the supervisory team.
- More predictable working hours than many traditional late-night hospitality venues.
- A supportive management and supervisory team.
- A workplace that values its people and recognises the importance of time outside work.
We believe great hospitality starts with a great team, and creating an environment where people enjoy coming to work is just as important as the experience we deliver to our members and guests.
Why Join the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club?
Located on the beautiful shores of Pittwater in Newport, RPAYC is one of the Northern Beaches' most recognised and established yacht clubs, offering a unique hospitality environment and a strong sense of community.
