About The Role

Matthew Hoyle Financial Markets is seeking a software developer to enhance, maintain, and support its in-house electronic trading system. In this role, you will build and improve software that needs to be responsive, scalable, efficient, and reliable. You will collaborate with Traders, Quants, and Infrastructure personnel to understand requirements, address technical challenges, and deliver effective solutions.

This position is suited to a hands-on C++ developer with experience working in a Linux and GCC environment. You will contribute to design and architecture discussions, investigate performance issues, and help ensure the trading platform continues to meet operational and technical needs. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a consistent focus on code quality are important to success.

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong, demonstrable C++ programming skills and a track record of developing software on Linux using GCC.
- Experience profiling software and optimizing algorithms for performance.
- Experience with network programming, multithreaded programming, and inter-process communication.
- Knowledge of distributed architecture systems and the considerations involved in building reliable software across system components.
- A collaborative, personable approach and the ability to work effectively with colleagues from technical and financial disciplines.




- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, careful attention to detail, and the motivation to deliver high-quality code on schedule.

Experience in financial markets is desirable, particularly with market data feeds, order execution APIs, or derivatives trading. Additional experience with C, Python, messaging middleware, or specialist low-latency solutions would also be advantageous.

Responsibilities

- Enhance, maintain, and support the company’s in-house electronic trading platform.
- Develop and improve software components with a focus on performance, reliability, scalability, and efficiency.
- Collaborate with Traders, Quants, Infrastructure personnel, and software development colleagues to clarify requirements and deliver practical solutions.
- Contribute to system architecture and technical design decisions, considering the needs of a low-latency trading environment.
- Profile software, identify performance bottlenecks, and optimize algorithms and system behavior where appropriate.
- Apply sound engineering practices to networked, multithreaded, and distributed software systems.
- Support the platform’s ongoing operation by investigating issues and contributing to effective, timely resolutions.
- Deliver well-considered code and development work in line with agreed priorities and deadlines.
