Through its partnership with Rio Tinto, Chandler Macleod is supporting business-critical transformation initiatives across Iron Ore operations. Rio Tinto is a global mining and materials company focused on finding, mining and processing the resources the world needs.
This assignment places you within a collaborative Improvement and Technology environment, working with teams focused on enhancing asset management and operational performance. You will contribute to initiatives that use data and analytics to support better decisions across maintenance, reliability and resource management.
About The Role
Chandler Macleod is seeking an experienced Data Engineer or Data Analyst to support asset management and operational improvement initiatives for Rio Tinto. Reporting to the Principal Asset, Data & Systems, you will work closely with operational, maintenance and asset management stakeholders to analyse complex information and turn it into practical business insights.
The role centres on operational and maintenance data, with a focus on identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce waste and optimise maintenance performance. You will develop reporting solutions, work with data from SAP and use SQL to extract and analyse information.
Your insights will help support initiatives involving fixed plant and mobile equipment, including reducing tool time and improving spare parts management.
This opportunity would suit someone who enjoys solving data challenges and communicating findings in a clear, actionable way. Experience with asset management, maintenance, reliability, mining, resources, manufacturing or another heavy industry environment will be valuable.
Qualifications
You will bring experience analysing asset management, maintenance, reliability, operational or business performance data. Strong Power BI skills are required, including the ability to develop and maintain dashboards and reporting solutions. You will also have sound SQL querying and data analysis capability, alongside experience working with SAP data, ideally in an asset management or maintenance context.
Additional strengths include an understanding of database structures and data management principles, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to explain technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience in mining, resources, heavy industry, utilities, manufacturing or similar operational settings is desirable. Exposure to Databricks, Python, R or other programming languages is advantageous, as is familiarity with maintenance,
reliability and asset management principles or continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
You will analyse asset management and maintenance datasets to identify trends, performance gaps and improvement opportunities. You will develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, extract and transform data using SQL, and work with SAP asset management and maintenance information to support business decision-making.
You will also contribute to initiatives designed to reduce maintenance tool time for fixed plant and mobile equipment, and analyse inventory and spare parts data to identify opportunities to reduce waste. Working with operational and technical stakeholders, you will clarify requirements, provide relevant insights and support transformation and continuous improvement projects across Iron Ore operations. Maintaining data quality, governance and reporting standards will be an important part of the role.
Benefits
This six-month assignment offers a rate of $105–$110 per hour, plus 12% superannuation, with a Monday-to-Friday schedule at Central Park CBD. Chandler Macleod contractors receive weekly pay, superannuation on all hours worked, access to an Employee Assistance Program and ongoing support from a dedicated consultant. You will also benefit from streamlined digital onboarding and may be considered for future Rio Tinto assignments.
