About the role
Moreton Hire is looking for an experienced Inventory Controller to join our Stock Control and Logistics team.
This is an important role within the business as we continue to improve how we manage a large, diverse hire inventory across exhibitions, events and temporary infrastructure, while also transitioning to a new ERP platform.
We are looking for someone who is highly capable with inventory, logistics, 3PL operations and data. This is not simply a stock-counting position. We want someone who can understand what the data is telling us, identify problems, improve processes and help build stronger inventory-control disciplines across the business.
For the right person, we are prepared to pay above-market remuneration.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain accurate inventory and stock records across the business.
- Investigate stock discrepancies and identify root causes.
- Coordinate and undertake cycle counts, stocktakes and inventory reconciliations.
- Monitor stock movements between warehouses, projects, venues and customers.
- Improve controls around picking, dispatch, returns, transfers and damaged/missing equipment.
- Work closely with warehouse, logistics, project management, procurement and operations teams.
- Analyse inventory data to identify discrepancies, trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop reporting around stock accuracy, utilisation, losses and inventory movements.
- Assist with product master data, item structures, locations and stock classifications.
- Support barcode and scanning processes where applicable.
- Help establish strong inventory procedures and controls as Moreton Hire transitions to its recent ERP system.
- Assist with data cleansing, validation and migration associated with the ERP transition.
- Help ensure new systems and processes reflect how inventory physically moves through our operations.
- Drive continuous improvement across warehousing,
logistics and inventory management.
What we're looking for Ideally, you will have experience across several of the following areas:
- Inventory control / stock control
- Warehousing and logistics
- 3PL operations
- Inventory or warehouse management systems
- ERP systems
- Data analysis and reporting
- Cycle counting and stock reconciliation
- Barcode / scanning-based inventory management
- Product and inventory master-data management
- Process improvement
Strong Excel and data skills will be particularly valuable. Experience participating in an ERP implementation or migration would be highly regarded.
The person
We are looking for someone who is naturally analytical and likes getting to the bottom of problems.
If the system says there are 120 units in stock but only 106 can be found, we don't just want someone who changes the number to 106. We want someone who asks:
Where did the other 14 go? What process failed? How do we prevent it happening again?
You'll need to be comfortable moving between the warehouse floor and the data. You'll understand that good inventory control depends on both strong systems and strong operational disciplines.
You will also need to communicate well with operational teams and be able to introduce better processes without creating unnecessary complexity.
Why join Moreton Hire?
This is an opportunity to join the business at an important point in the development of our operational systems.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute directly to our ERP transition and the future design of our inventory and stock-control processes, rather than simply inheriting an established system.
We are looking for high-calibre talent rather than the cheapest candidate and are prepared to offer above-market remuneration for someone with the right combination of inventory, logistics, 3PL and data capability.
