Position Details

St Thomas More Catholic Primary School is a single-stream regional school located in the heart of Margaret River, catering for approximately 220 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 6. The school prides itself on providing a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment that supports student learning and wellbeing.

St Thomas More Catholic Primary School is seeking a Maintenance and Grounds Person to maintain the school’s buildings, property and grounds to a high standard of safety, functionality and presentation. This is a part-time ongoing position (0.8 FTE Mon – Thurs, with flexibility in working hours across these days), commencing 9 March 2026 (negotiable).

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and grounds tasks required to ensure the school environment is safe, functional and visually appealing. The role works collaboratively with the Principal, Leadership Team and Finance Officer and contributes to planning related to infrastructure, maintenance and safety.

The Maintenance and Grounds Person is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

- Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, facilities and equipment
- Maintaining school grounds, including lawns, gardens, playgrounds and outdoor learning areas
- Ensuring the school environment is safe, secure and well presented at all times
- Supporting Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements, including hazard identification and reporting
- Assisting with environmental management and sustainable practices
- Working in consultation with the Principal, Leadership Team and Finance Officer to support infrastructure planning, refurbishment and maintenance projects
- Supporting security procedures and responding to maintenance issues as they arise
- Liaising with contractors when required and monitoring completed works

Selection Criteria





- Ability to carry out grounds and general maintenance duties to support the safe, efficient and smooth operation of the school.
- Demonstrated experience inspecting school grounds, buildings and facilities to ensure safety, functionality and a high standard of presentation.
- Capacity to respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner and manage tasks effectively, including the use of a maintenance or ticketing system where required.
- Knowledge and experience in monitoring water usage and maintaining reticulation systems, including undertaking basic repairs.
- Ability to liaise effectively with contractors and suppliers to ensure quality workmanship and timely delivery of goods and services.
- Willingness and ability to support school operations and logistics, including event set-ups, furniture movement and deliveries.
- Sound knowledge of tools, machinery and equipment, with a demonstrated commitment to Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements and protected work practices.
- Ability to communicate regularly and work collaboratively with the Principal, Leadership Team and Finance Officer regarding priorities, budgets and infrastructure planning.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, manage time effectively and apply sound problem-solving skills.
- Physical fitness and mobility appropriate to the demands of the role, with strong observation skills.
- Flexibility to work adjusted hours when required, at the discretion of the Principal.
- Hold a current Western Australian Driver’s Licence.

Qualifications Required

- Demonstrated commitment to and support of the objectives and ethos of Catholic Education in the performance of duties.
- Hold, or be willing to obtain, Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School in accordance with Catholic Education Western Australia requirements.
- Hold a current Working With Children (WWC) Check.
- Successfully complete 100-point identification and Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCH) as required by CEWA.
