Your role
As a Media Officer, you will manage media inquiries and media issues, prepare media responses, media releases, campaigns and announcements. Liaise with staff and Ministerial Offices to deliver effective and relevant media services in a manner that reflects organisational priorities and upholds and promotes the reputation of DCJ.
What you’ll do
As part of the Media and Corporate Communications within Communications division, you will manage media enquiries, respond to emerging issues, develop media materials, support announcements, and work closely with staff, senior executives, and Ministerial Offices.
We're looking for a media professional who can combine strong communication skills with hands-on multimedia expertise. You'll identify compelling stories that showcase the impact of DCJ's work and create engaging photography and video content to bring those stories to life.
Working in the DCJ Media Unit is rapid-paced, varied and rewarding. Every day brings something different, from proactively identifying and developing stories that showcase the work of DCJ, to responding quickly to emerging issues and media enquiries. It’s an exciting environment that requires you to be agile, collaborative and comfortable balancing proactive storytelling with fast-moving reactive media.
What we’re looking for
The ideal candidate
- has experience managing media enquiries and issues in a fast-paced environment
- can identify and develop strong media stories, not just respond to incoming enquiries
- writes clearly, accurately and quickly across a range of media formats
- has practical experience taking high-quality photographs and shooting and editing video
- understands how to produce visual content that supports a broader story or communications objective
- exercises sound judgement when dealing with sensitive, contentious or high-profile matters
- builds effective relationships with stakeholders and journalists
- can manage competing priorities and adapt quickly as issues emerge.
- can participate in a rotating after-hours roster, including weekends and public holidays.
Relevant qualifications or professional experience in media, journalism, communications or a related field would be well regarded.
