About the role
We have an opportunity for a Senior Paralegal to join the Regulation and Compliance team at the Office of the Registrar General (ORG).
Reporting to the Managing Lawyer, Commercial, you will join a friendly and collaborative team and work across a diverse range of legal, regulatory, governance and commercial matters relating to the NSW land titles system and electronic conveyancing.
This is a varied role offering the prospect to work closely with lawyers, regulators and senior stakeholders on matters ranging from regulatory compliance and incident assessment to governance, contracts and the NSW land titles' concession arrangements.
This is a great opportunity for someone looking to develop their experience across commercial, regulatory and governance work in a unique area of NSW Government.
We are looking for someone who enjoys working collaboratively, is curious and willing to develop skills in new areas and is comfortable working through complex and emerging issues. You will be organised, adaptable, and able to exercise initiative and sound judgement while managing competing priorities.
About us
ORG is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the NSW land title system. It regulates the concession of NSW's land titles registry and oversees providers of electronic conveyancing services in NSW.
The Regulation and Compliance team is responsible for operationalising the concession arrangements, managing governance and reporting, and advising on strategic, commercial and regulatory issues.
The team is also responsible for regulating Electronic Lodgment Network Operators (ELNOs) in NSW, advising the Registrar General on relevant legislation, operating requirements and NSW approval conditions, and working with representatives from other States and Territories as part of the national electronic conveyancing regulatory framework.
Your day-to-day
As a Senior Paralegal, you will support the team across a broad range of legal, regulatory and governance matters. No two days will necessarily look the same, but your work may include:
- undertaking legal and regulatory research and assisting with the preparation of advice, briefing notes, correspondence and other legal documents
- reviewing ELNO incidents and regulatory matters,
undertaking initial analysis and assisting to identify issues requiring further consideration or follow-up
- assisting with analysis of the NSW land titles concession arrangements, including reviewing provisions of the Concession Deed and related contractual and governance documents
- supporting governance meetings and forums, including coordinating papers, preparing agendas, attending meetings, taking minutes and tracking actions and decisions
- reviewing reports, correspondence, stakeholder submissions and other material and preparing comments and feedback for consideration by the legal and regulatory team
- assisting with the review, management and maintenance of contracts and other commercial and regulatory documents
- acting as a point of contact for key internal and external stakeholders, responding to enquiries and coordinating information in an effective and responsive manner
- assisting with regulatory and stakeholder engagement, including preparing presentations, consultation papers, briefing materials and other communications using Microsoft 365 tools
- maintaining records and trackers to support the management of legal, regulatory and governance matters
- contributing to broader projects and priorities across the Regulation and Compliance team.
Benefits and development This role provides an opportunity to build experience that goes beyond traditional paralegal work. As part of a small, collaborative team, you will have the opportunity to:
- develop practical experience across commercial law, regulation, governance and compliance
- work on complex and interesting matters affecting the NSW land titles and electronic conveyancing systems
- gain exposure to significant contractual and regulatory frameworks, including the NSW land titles Concession Deed and the regulation of ELNOs
- work closely with experienced lawyers and regulatory professionals and learn through direct involvement in substantive matters
- attend governance meetings and gain exposure to senior stakeholders and decision-making processes
- build your legal research, analysis, drafting and stakeholder management skills
- take ownership of work and progressively develop greater responsibility as your experience grows
- work in a supportive environment where you will be encouraged to ask questions, contribute ideas, and develop your professional interests.
The breadth of the team's work means this role would particularly suit someone interested in developing a career in law, government, regulation, governance or commercial work and looking for hands-on experience in a specialist regulatory environment. What's next?
Please submit your application with an up-to-date Resume and a cover letter explain your interest in the position and how your skills and experience align to the requirement of this role.
