About the role:

We are excited to offer an opportunity to join Orica’s Summer Internship Program in Melbourne within our Technology & Innovation team, focusing on Intellectual Property (IP) Strategy.

This opportunity offers exposure to the intersection of business, law, technology and innovation, supporting the development of a refreshed IP strategy that will help inform Orica’s future innovation priorities and investment decisions.

Working in a role similar to that of an internal consultant, you will review existing IP strategies, research industry and technology developments, and engage with stakeholders across the business to identify emerging opportunities and strategic priorities.

The internship will be based in Melbourne, providing an opportunity to develop practical experience in strategic research, stakeholder engagement and business analysis within a global organisation.

What you will be doing:

- Review existing IP strategies, patent portfolio assessments, technology roadmaps and previous recommendations to understand Orica’s current IP position.
- Conduct research using publicly available sources to identify relevant industry trends, competitor activities, emerging technologies and developments in the IP landscape.




- Engage with technology leaders and project teams to understand current innovation initiatives, business priorities and potential IP opportunities.
- Collect, organise and document research findings, stakeholder insights and supporting information to inform strategic analysis.
- Analyse findings to identify gaps, emerging opportunities and potential areas for IP protection, commercialisation and strategic investment.
- Support the development of a refreshed IP strategy, including practical recommendations and priorities aligned with Orica’s business objectives.
- Prepare clear reports, presentations and recommendations to communicate findings to key stakeholders and business leaders.
- Collaborate with colleagues across legal, business and technology functions to gain a broader understanding of innovation and IP strategy.

What you will bring:

- Currently completing a qualification in Law, Business, Commerce or a related discipline.
- An interest in technology, innovation, intellectual property or business strategy.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather information from different sources and identify meaningful insights.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage with stakeholders across different areas of the business.




- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage information and present findings in a clear, structured manner.
- A curious and proactive approach to problem-solving, with a willingness to ask questions, explore new ideas and develop practical recommendations.
- The ability to think critically and consider both commercial and technical perspectives when approaching business challenges.

- Availability to participate for the full Summer Internship Program period and to work from the advertised location.
