Balranald Shire Council

Balranald

Council is seeking applications for a fulltime experienced and motivated:

WORK HEALTH AND SAFETY (WHS)

& RISK OFFICER

Salary: up to $130,000 pa (including superannuation, with council provided housing (subject to availability) and a Council vehicle available as part of the employment package) negotiable on experience and qualifications.

Are you a practical safety professional who enjoys working with people and making a real difference?

Balranald Shire Council is looking for an experienced and motivated WHS and Risk Officer to help us build a safer workplace and strengthen the way we manage risk across the organisation.

We are a small rural council with a surprisingly diverse range of responsibilities. From road construction and heavy plant to water and sewerage operations, community facilities, aged care and administration, there is plenty of variety.

We want someone who understands that good safety management isn't just about having policies and procedures in place. It's about getting out into the workplace, talking with people, recognising risks and making sure sensible controls are actually working.

About the role

You will work closely with Council's management and employees to:

· Identify, assess and manage workplace hazards and organisational risks.

· Review and improve Council's WHS systems, policies and procedures.

· Undertake workplace inspections, safety audits and incident investigations.

· Assist managers and supervisors to meet their WHS responsibilities.

· Coordinate safety training, inductions and consultation with employees.

· Maintain Council's risk registers and incident reporting systems, including Donesafe.

· Assist with regulatory compliance, contractor safety and workers compensation matters.

· Provide clear and practical advice to management and Council's Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.

- Help build a workplace culture where safety is everyone's responsibility.

About you We are looking for someone who:

· Has relevant WHS qualifications and demonstrated practical experience.

· Understands workplace safety legislation and sound risk management principles.

· Can communicate effectively with everyone, from outdoor crews to senior management.

· Has the confidence to raise difficult issues and recommend practical solutions.

· Can work independently, organise priorities and follow matters through to completion.

- Understands that a completed form doesn't necessarily mean a risk has been properly addressed.

Experience in local government, construction, civil works, utilities or similar operational environments would be an advantage.

Why Balranald?

Balranald Shire offers the chance to undertake meaningful work in a supportive rural community, with an interesting mix of operational challenges.

This is an prospect to have a genuine influence on how an organisation manages safety and risk, and to see the results of your work firsthand.

We are interested in someone who can help us do things better, not simply tell us what we already know.

How to apply For a position description and further information, visit www.balranald.nsw.gov.au or contact Council on (03) 5020 1300.

Applications should include a covering letter addressing the selection criteria and a current resume.

Email applications, addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, to: [email protected].
