Scott Bywater Marketing Architect

Australia

Please read this before you apply. If you're good, it will excite you. If you're average, it will save us both a lot of time.

I'll be upfront. I'm looking for one person, and I'm looking for the best. If you've "done a bit of telemarketing" and are hoping to pick up some extra hours, please stop reading here. This role will frustrate you, and we'll both know within the first week.

But if you're the person every sales manager you've ever worked for tried to keep, keep reading. I think you'll like what follows.

Who I am

My name is Scott Bywater. For more than 20 years I've helped businesses work out why the right clients aren't showing up, then fixed it. My work has helped a Texas custom home builder lift his website traffic 24-fold without spending a cent on ads. It helped an accounting business generate more than 500 leads and over $200,000 in sales. It helped a property company turn $16,000 in Facebook ads into $64,000 in revenue. I was a founding member of the Association of Professional Builders Rewards Programme, and I run Elite Marketers, one of Australia's leading peer groups for marketing professionals.

The people I work with are business owners: builders, consultants, advisors and specialist service providers. Responsible operators running serious businesses, where one good client can be worth tens of thousands of dollars.

Those are the people you'll be talking to.

What you'll actually do

You'll call business owners who have already put their hand up. They've registered for a webinar, met me at an event, downloaded something, or enquired. Your job is to have a real conversation with them, find out whether their marketing is bringing in the wrong clients (or not enough of the right ones), and if they're a genuine fit, book them into a Marketing Diagnosis call with me.

You'll have a guide for the conversation. You won't have a script to read word for word, because experienced business owners can smell a script from the first sentence, and they hang up.

Why most setters would fail here

Business owners are some of the most time-poor, sceptical people you'll ever ring. They've been pitched by every agency, SEO "expert" and lead-gen company on the planet. They have zero patience for small talk, fake enthusiasm or being "handled."

So here is who this role will chew up and spit out:

- Anyone who needs a script to feel safe

- Anyone who pushes, pressures or tries to "overcome objections" by talking louder
- Anyone who takes "no" personally
- Anyone who measures success by how many calls they booked, regardless of whether those people show up or are any positive

That last point matters most. I would rather you book three qualified business owners who turn up than ten who ghost me. I pay accordingly.

Who will thrive here

You've set appointments before, and you can tell me your numbers without looking them up.

Dials, conversations, bookings, show rate. If you don't know your numbers, you're probably not the person I'm looking for.

You listen more than you talk. You're genuinely curious about how someone's business works.

People relax when they're on the phone with you, and they tell you things they hadn't planned to.

You're just as comfortable with a builder who's been on the tools for 30 years as you are with a polished consultant or a financial advisor. You adjust to the person in front of you without sounding like you're reading off a card. Experience selling to business owners, in any industry, is a big plus.

And you love being measured. Because you will be. Every dial, every conversation, every booking, every show. The best setters I've met find that motivating. If it makes you nervous, this probably isn't your role.

Hours, pay and how we'll start

We'll start with 8 to 10 hours a week in fixed blocks. You'll be calling business owners in Australia, New Zealand and the US, so your hours need to reach all three time zones. We recommend 5:30am to 9:30am Queensland time, when business owners in all three actually pick up.

Here's how I'll choose. I'll invite my two strongest finalists into a paid two-week trial, starting around 16 November, working the same list with the same targets. At the end of the two weeks, the numbers decide. The person who wins gets more hours as results hold.

Pay is AU$40 per hour,

plus 10% of any sale I close from an appointment you booked. I'll pay more for proven performers who get results. You'll work remotely, from anywhere in Australia, as a contractor with your own ABN. You'll make and log your calls in GoHighLevel, and I'll train you myself. Phone skills matter more than knowing the software.

How to apply (please follow this exactly)

Step 1: Fill in the short application form at .

Tell me your numbers from your most recent setting or sales role: roughly how many dials a week, how many conversations, how many bookings, and what percentage showed up. Then add a link to a 1-minute audio recording of you selling yourself for this role, as if you were calling me. Audio only, no video needed.

Step 2: If you're shortlisted, you'll be sent a short skill test: a recorded voicemail to a business owner who registered for a free webinar and didn't turn up.

Applications without the recording won't be considered. The recording is the interview. It tells me in 60 seconds what a résumé never could.

Every recording gets listened to.

OR

Step 1: Apply via Indeed and tell me your numbers from your most recent setting or sales role: roughly how many dials a week, how many conversations, how many bookings, and what percentage showed up.

Step 2: If your application stands out, you'll be sent a link to record a 1-minute audio pitch, selling yourself for this role as if you were calling me. Audio only, no video needed.

Step 3: The strongest applicants get a short skill test: a recorded voicemail to a business owner who registered for a free webinar and didn't turn up.

The recording is the interview. It tells me in 60 seconds what a résumé never could. Every recording gets listened to.

If you've read this far and felt a little spark of "that's me," send me your recording.
