Early Intervention Specialist

Rockingham, Perth and Mandurah, WA
Full-time, part-time or subcontractor opportunities

About us

Bridge to Understanding is an established NDIS-registered provider expanding from Tasmania into Western Australia. We are seeking Early Intervention Specialists to help establish our services across Rockingham, Perth and Mandurah.

Our approach is neuro-affirming, child-led and trauma-informed. We work alongside children and families to build on strengths, support development and make everyday routines more accessible and enjoyable.

About the role

You will provide individualised, play-based early intervention for young children with developmental delays, disability and additional support needs.

Working closely with parents, carers and educators, you will support children’s communication, play, relationships, regulation and everyday independence. You will help families use practical strategies during the activities and routines that matter to them.

Your caseload will be shaped around your qualifications, experience, interests and preferred locations. Services may include clinic appointments, home visits, childcare and kindergarten visits, community sessions and parent coaching.

As an early member of our WA team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our local early intervention service.

Key responsibilities

- Gather information about each child’s strengths, interests, development and support needs through family discussions, observations and appropriate assessment tools.
- Develop meaningful, achievable goals in partnership with families.
- Plan and deliver engaging, play-based sessions within your qualifications and scope of practice.
- Support communication, shared play, emotional development, transitions and participation in everyday routines.

- Adapt activities to each child’s developmental level, sensory preferences and communication needs.
- Recognise and respond to children’s cues, respecting their choices, boundaries and need for breaks.
- Coach parents and carers in practical strategies they can use confidently between appointments.
- Work collaboratively with educators to support inclusion and participation in early learning settings.
- Collaborate with speech pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, behaviour support practitioners and other professionals.
- Develop therapy assistant programs and provide oversight where appropriate to your role and qualifications.
- Maintain clear support plans, session notes and progress reports.
- Review progress with families and adjust support as children’s needs change.
- Identify and respond to child safety and safeguarding concerns.
- Participate in supervision, reflective practice and professional development.

About you

You are a warm, creative practitioner who enjoys working with young children and values parents and carers as partners. You can turn everyday play and routines into meaningful opportunities for learning, connection and independence.

You will bring:

- A relevant tertiary qualification in early childhood education, special education, an allied health discipline or another field relevant to early childhood intervention.

- Relevant qualified registration or accreditation where applicable to your discipline.
- Experience supporting young children with developmental delays, disability or additional needs.
- A sound understanding of early childhood development and family-centred practice.
- A neuro-affirming approach that respects different ways of learning, communicating and playing.
- Confidence adapting activities and explaining strategies in clear, practical language.
- Strong communication, observation and documentation skills.
- The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
- Relevant worker screening and Working with Children clearance.
- A current driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle if undertaking community appointments.

Experience in parent coaching, inclusive early childhood education, developmental assessment or play-based intervention would be highly regarded. Please describe your qualifications, approach and areas of interest in your application.
