About us

Bridge to Understanding is an established NDIS-registered provider expanding from Tasmania into Western Australia. We are seeking Speech Pathologists to help establish our services across Rockingham, Perth and Mandurah.

Our approach is neuro-affirming, person-centred and trauma-informed. We value strong relationships and practical support that respects each person’s communication, preferences and goals.

About the role

You will provide assessment and therapy to support communication, participation and independence in everyday life.

Your caseload will be discussed with you and shaped around your experience, clinical skills, interests and preferred locations. There is scope to work with children, adolescents, adults or a mixed caseload, including people with autism, developmental delays, intellectual disability and complex communication needs.

Services may include clinic appointments, home and school visits, community appointments and telehealth, depending on participant needs and the agreed role.

As an early member of our WA team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of our local speech pathology service.

Key responsibilities

- Assess speech, language and functional communication needs.
- Develop and deliver individualised, evidence-based therapy in partnership with participants and their families.
- Support understanding, expression, speech clarity and communication in everyday situations.
- Recognise and support all forms of communication, including speech, gestures, signs,

visuals and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
- Assess, recommend and support the use of AAC systems within your experience and competence.
- Help participants communicate their needs, preferences, boundaries and choices.
- Provide practical coaching to families, carers, educators and support workers.
- Develop therapy assistant programs and provide appropriate delegation and oversight where required.
- Complete feeding and swallowing assessments and intervention only where appropriately trained and competent, if included in the agreed role.
- Prepare clear assessment reports, progress reports and recommendations.
- Collaborate with occupational therapists, psychologists, behaviour support practitioners and other professionals.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and manage reporting deadlines and participant funding responsibly.
- Uphold participant rights, privacy, safeguarding and professional standards.

About you

You are a warm, approachable practitioner who values connection and understands that meaningful communication looks different for everyone.

You will bring:

- A recognised qualification in Speech Pathology.
- Eligibility for Certified Practising Speech Pathologist status with Speech Pathology Australia.

- Robust assessment, therapy planning and report-writing skills.
- A neuro-affirming approach that respects participant autonomy and communication preferences.
- The ability to adapt therapy to each person’s developmental level, sensory needs and interests.
- Confidence working collaboratively with families and support teams.
- The ability to work independently while staying connected with a broader team.
- Relevant worker screening and Working with Children clearance for the agreed caseload.
- A current driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle if undertaking community appointments.

Experience in NDIS services, paediatrics, AAC, complex communication needs or feeding and swallowing would be highly regarded. Please tell us about your strengths and areas of interest.

Working with BTU

You will work alongside our directors and broader team, with opportunities for collaboration across speech pathology, occupational therapy, psychology and behaviour support.
